Starting the Ace

Sort of sure ;)

Used to think it was EGR as it seemed hard to get air into a high pressure area ( the exhaust) but quite a few of these systems are not even plugged into the airbox anymore so its not EGR .

Wiki quote "Aspirated air injection
Air injection can also be achieved by taking advantage of the negative pressure pulses in the exhaust system at engine idle. A sensitive reed valve assembly called the aspirator valve is placed in the air injection plumbing, which draws its air directly from the clean side of the air filter. During engine idle, brief but periodic negative pressure pulses in the exhaust system draw air through the aspirator valve and into the exhaust stream at the catalytic converter. This system is still used on modern motorcycle engines, e.g. the Yamaha AIS (Air Injection System)."

The connection on the Ace is to the manifold - after fuel is in the air stream.

Crazy

(apologies to vonmighty for the thread-jack!)

Apologies for thread jack !

Yes but the manifold vacuum connection is just to operate the valve to allow the air into the exhaust - the flow is then from the "extra" white filter to the port on the head on the exhaust side.

Honest !

More info here if you are still not convinced ;)

Go nuts, im learning!

Thanks ! - TBH it makes no odds if it is EGR or SAI (it is SAI!) - its an unnecessary bit of untidiness!

How's the starting ? Is it better with the throttle left closed or opened up just a little ? Might be worth winding the idle mix screw out by a half or full turn - the one at the bottom of the carb that is hard to get to !

Hopefully the new carb and egr blanking will help. Also have never been able to start it using the kick start.
