CB250 Nighthawk Tracker. Planning for the future

Hi all

I've been having a look at my frame, and thinking of ways of cleaning it up a bit.

This is what I have (stock image of a 91, mine is a 98 and a bit rough around the edges)

Here's what I'm thinking.

Cut and loop as indicated by my fantastic paint skills. I would have a steel rear guard and new front guard made up. Indicators replaced with short flat black bullet style.

Remove extra indicator rubbish, and clean up the seat lock/helmet holder. Also those hand holds cut them and make them sit straight down, for panniers (daily ride)

The original seat pan sits pretty flush with the frame, and if I cut/loop where I want and just refoam the seat I can use the existing mounting option.

I would get the seat foam replaced, and it would remove most of that pillion hump. Just have it slightly angled up I would think. (Seat isn't locked in there)

I would have the seat reupholstered and hopefully the end result would be similar to the following examples

For now I plan on using the original tank, its not that ugly and with the original seat pan it would have a reasonable amount of flowing lines to it.

Here is one done Cafe style using the original tank but an aftermarket seat. I'm hoping for a more flowing look with the seat, and I plan on making covers over the battery/airbox until I get myself a second motor to rebuild in my downtime. Then I'll do the whole pod filter, cleaned up electrics etc and probably change the tank/seat combo for a more retro look (unless I love the way the mach 1 version turns out)

Any advice/cheers/jeers would be appreciated

Pics are working....I always used to eyeball the Honda Nighthawk 250 and think to myself: "This thing would make a cool little cafe racer or street tracker if done properly. I see your vision and look forward to seeing where this goes...

i just bought a '86 450 hawk. Im not a huge fan of the way it looks, and I want to do something similar to what you're showing in your examples. The biggest thing I've noticed is that the frames aren't "flat" from front to back. Thus, you get that little dip in the middle... So, the bike just looks a little bit too "curvy" to me... I want the bottom line of my tank to go straight across to the back.. So its looking like I'm going to be finding a tank i like, and then doing a lot of fiberglass work for a seat pan.

So my plan went all pear shaped when some knob in a camry pulled out in front of me (running a stop sign in the process), wrote off my bike and by proxy installed a titanium rod the full length of my left femur on the inside of the bone.

8 months later I'm almost ready to go back to my normal job (shunter) but without overtime/public holiday rates or call ins for 8 months the budget can't handle another motorcycle let alone another project.

Ill never commute again so now I'm looking at getting a adventure bike and making it old school cool when I can eventually afford it. Probably won't be until my MAIB claim goes through in another year though.

Until then I'll just drive a stupid mazda 2 and get more and more depressed until I can feel the wind in my face again

well that's garbage........... sorry man. I have found myself looking at those tanks and figuring ways to make them work; especially as a tracker...
