'69 TS250 Wiring Harness

Hey there guys, I have a TS250 that was hotwired by the previous owner (no it't not stolen) and I am looking to redo the wiring harness when I replace the ignition. From what I've found online stock ignitions are $100 and I don't really want to spend that much so I just picked up a 3 wire universal ignition.

First question is this. The stock unit is 6 wires (see wiring diagram), and as I said before the universal I got is 3. Will this work, and if so what should I be hooking up to the ignition. And secondly, what is the feasibility of doing a 12v conversion? I have read the bike makes enough stock so I wouldn't have to do a step up circuit or anything, but I don't know if this is actually true.

Three wire will work, but you'll need to figure out what you want to do about the headlight and tail light. The usual solution is to swap to an always on style.
