a condensor for an xr75 will work fine no reason to mount it to the coil.just mount it up there where it dont get rubbed or vibrated on

avaibility isnt so much the issue, out of factory they sit as one like this
$_35.JPG

If i cut that line and crimp in a connection to fit the ones that come in tune up kits wont the connection be the weak spot?
i know any movement causes the field to break down an discharge prematurely.

Just ordered this, even if i cant use the condenser it was only 5 dollars more.

and this

Bargain full engine gasket kit for $59!

I've tried to use different condensers with various coils. The issue is most have a one wire connection, where the stock XL has two. I haven't been able to figure out how to wire one up or to find someone else who knows.

well got a spark today, weak, but a spark.
unfortunatley in correctly setting the timing i also thought i better
double check the valves. rookie error, dont try retorque the valve set screws without confirming torque spec.
snapped one in half just above where the retaining bolt meets the rocker arm.
fortunately didnt drop into the case. Either way ordered replacements.

And ill take that as a sign that its tiem to pull the engine and get chopping

Is it just me or like toilets these OZY bikes have the throttle AND kick start on the left??

been stripping back the bike as well as cleaning the engine, bad news is the bike obviously was thrashed pretty hard when it was in the Northern territory, it doesnt have a bash plate and there are multiple chips and weld repairs to the casings which showed up as the dirt came off.

AND of course i didnt notice because its kicked over and was in place, but the kickstarter is bardly bent and on its way out clearly, i cant remove the RHS case because of it so ive fixed the oil leak with a new gasket on the LHS but have had to leave it as is until i can source a new shaft which are few and far between. im also considering a engine swap.

The silver lining to all this is that i feel far less precious about modding it now, it so far from being a easy resto.
ive began stripping it back, and have primed the swingarm.

A shame about the kickstarter shaft. That, my friend is exactly the issue that has caused their rareness. I'm not totally sure what causes it. Whether people don't get it all the way on or if it loosens easily. The lever is different for the later years, which maybe was a design improvement. I was fortunate to find a 1978 parts bike for $100. I would look that route as well. Strangely, you can often find complete parts bikes cheaper than guys want just for the shaft. I didn't dig around a lot because I found mine quickly, but apparently some guys were somehow mating a kawasaki shaft to the broken off XL shaft. Not exactly sure how or which one, but it might be worth searching.

that one of those goddam kickers that is got too much offset at the spline the force of twist is too far from center comboed with the singles vibes that work it loose and a smallish spline size

Never did understand why a simple hole tap and cap bolt as a second fastening device on kickers never took off... My worn out old Hoda Combat Wombat was such a rattler it would literally spit the shifter or kicker off once and a while (before I even knew what thread lock was) so I drilled and tapped both... that kicker hanging from bailing wire could kill a guy if it hit just right

Things are coming along no pictures currently.
Im trying to figure out a way to heat the engine so i can get all the old oil out without starting the engine and having any muck thrown around inside.
anyone have any ideas?

get some new sidecase cover gaskets and seals you gotta pull off the clutch cover anyway to clean out the filter trap
pull of both covers then warm it up and rise it out

yeah but im thinking how, high wattage lamp?
i can drain most the oil im just concerned about dirty pockets of it which would normally come out if you started it up for a few minutes before hand

you could set it in front of a 1500 watt space heater for several hours, even build a makeshift cardbored ovin
