A shame about the kickstarter shaft. That, my friend is exactly the issue that has caused their rareness. I'm not totally sure what causes it. Whether people don't get it all the way on or if it loosens easily. The lever is different for the later years, which maybe was a design improvement. I was fortunate to find a 1978 parts bike for $100. I would look that route as well. Strangely, you can often find complete parts bikes cheaper than guys want just for the shaft. I didn't dig around a lot because I found mine quickly, but apparently some guys were somehow mating a kawasaki shaft to the broken off XL shaft. Not exactly sure how or which one, but it might be worth searching.catsy said:AND of course i didnt notice because its kicked over and was in place, but the kickstarter is bardly bent and on its way out clearly, i cant remove the RHS case because of it so ive fixed the oil leak with a new gasket on the LHS but have had to leave it as is until i can source a new shaft which are few and far between. im also considering a engine swap.

pull of both covers then warm it up and rise it out
