sr250 first build, I know nothing at all.

Take the left cover off, the stator cover. Keep it at TDC. The crank that is.

So with the cam cover off, you'll see a timing mark on the cam gear and the corresponding mark on the head. Keep the chain from falling down and once you inspect the cam, take pics and post them here. P

Assembly of the cam should be easy since all you have to do is line the marks up again.
 
Cool to see you getting stuck in man. Heaps of guys with good advice here. And sweet Cosworths bike is inspiration, its a mint one 8)
 
I stopped by his place last week to take a look. It's even nicer in person. Hell of a nice guy too
