Shock Rebuilds

Has anyone ever noticed that parts seem to pop up in "lots" or multiplies?
I ended up getting a deal on a set of shocks...and then the next day another...and then another!
This seems to happen to me often. I will not buy XXX part for a while, and then all of a sudden I buy a few.

ANYWAY......

I have never actually rebuilt a set of shocks, so I figure this will be one of those small but fun projects.
Also assume that some of the people here might have either some insight into the project, or just enjoy reading about the process.

There are three sets of shocks that I have to rebuild.

First is a set of Mullhollands. These are fairly common.
Not really a performance part, but a nice standard shock.

Second is a set of Koni "Dial a ride" alloy body shocks.
I really like these because they polish up well when finished.

The first set is standard SOHC CB750 length and the other two are sized for a DOHC Honda.
All seem to move freely and have shafts that will be okay for rebuilding (no real pits or rust)

I guess the first step is to see what is out there for service kits.
Anyone have any leads?

The Konis are 7614 shocks. They also came standard on many BMWs. Koni is now Ikon. You can buy rebuild kits many places either directly from Ikon, through eBay and various other places.

Looking back, I'm not totally sure if the 7614 are rebuildable. They are gas charged versus the fluid filled of the 7610. The 7610 is a chrome body shock while the 7614 is the aluminum body shock. The 7610 is advertised as fully rebuildable where the 7614 isn't.

Beatnic, aka Doug isn't on here much but if you get in touch with him I am sure he can tell you any and everything you need to know about all three sets.

I rebuilt a set of Marzocchi Strada's for my CB750. The first one had a learning curve to it but the second was cake. It seems someone else asked about a rebuild and the kits are no longer available. They were one of the better shocks on the market back in the day.

I guess you decided against rebuilding?

Next three bikes on the list would not be using these, so no reason to spend the time right now.
Open to offers as always.
