What did you build this week?

Looks like a cool looking house, you should show a pic of the entire house with the planter/garden.

Plyi,
Looks like a cool garden project. What is the small tree in front of the window? If it's lemon or other citrus it will outgrow that space. Are those gum trees I see? I miss the smell, but not the mess of bark and leaves and gum nuts.

C&C thanks and I will try to take better pics we only got the front done as of now the rest is still dirt.

Teazer, thanks as well. The small tree on the left is a like tree we just picked up. It is still in the bucket from the nursery and is placed there more to get it out of the way for the sod then actually planting it there but good to know about the size. I am clueless about how to keep anything but grass alive.

The big trees (which you can't see) in the front are eucalyptus and the little one by the window and really big one the side yard is some sort of Oak I think (not really a ace botanist). They all have a really shallow root base and the soil is pretty sandy so we are hoping the grass with its myriad of roots will keep them from falling over in a storm like a few in our neighborhood have so far.

Still have some finishing to do, but I built up a small "machine shop bench". It will hold my lathe, drill press, belt sander and a heavy wilton vice. I wanted it to be heavy duty and rigid, so all the angle is 3/8" and the tubes are 1/4" wall 2x2 square for the legs. Also there are (not pictured) 5/8" carriage bolts for leveling under each leg. I saved a 24" x 84" x 2 3/16" maple butcher block top from the trash too for on top.

Insulated and paneled another 1/4 of the shop and built out the "big" bench.

For reference, the bench 10' on the long side and 6' on the short side Still gotta fab up some shelving for above the bench, and probably a few under the bench. But I already have more room to move around now.

Nice work mang, Gonna paint the osb ? it reflects light real good when painted gloss white and if two thick coats it will clean off too

Nice Job, makes me realize my shop needs a thorough cleaning. It currentlty is covered in tools and stone dust from the shower reno. Not fun.

I made a seven course meal for the Mrs and some friends for Valentine's Day. I made everything from scratch except the puff pastry.

1.) Wild mushrooms with caramelized onions and goat cheese on a puff pastry tart
2.) Crab bisque with garlic croutons
3.) Dover Sole a la Bordalaise with fresh dill pasta salad (this one doesn't look good, but the flavors were spot on)
4.) Blood Orange sorbet drizzled with Lemoncello
5.) Roast beef tenderloin with Gorgonzola whipped potatoes and Ratatouille
6.) Salade Nicoise
7.) White and dark chocolate mousse

I built a more simple dish for the wife and friends... not for valentines, that's tonight, but last night I made the Rellanos again.

Roast chilies over fire
Sizzle pork in proprietary seasons lol
Add chopped chilies and chicken stock
Serve over rellanos made from cheese stuffed chilies wrapped in egg roll wrapper and deep fried all topped with lettuce and tomatoes garnished with more cheese.

Nice pairings Sonreir, what were the wines and or cocktails?

Aperitif was a cocktail from Aperol, gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup.
The mushroom tart was served with a blanc du blanc Champagne.
Soup was paired with a Rhone Valley white
The fish got a rosé from Bordeaux
For the beef, we had a pretty decent Gamay from Washington
The salad went with a Loire Valley white
Hazlenut infused port for dessert

I had planned to do a Calvados and Grand Marnier cocktail for the digestif, but we were all pretty drunk at this point, so we gave it a miss.

we love this dish, we actually grew a pile of chilis to make this last summer, hope to grow more this year to have it again. Can't always get the right Chilis up here to make it.
