I just picked up this bike about 3 months ago. Its a 1968 cb450. Originally the guy had it listed as a 1974 in his ad but after i bought it and ran the frame and engine number it came up as a 68. It didnt run, looked like it was patched together from a few different bikes, and the kick starter shaft was missing outta the side of the engine which kinda worried me. But at 600 bucks it was to good of a deal to pass up.
As a started looking into the engine i found a few things that needed to be addressed. One was this crack in the chain cover, and as i got the head apart and started measuring my cylinder bore and taper my reading were way outta the park. I took over 100 readings with my snap gauges and micometer. I was getting 73mm!
I continued pulling apart the bottom end to see what was goin on with this missing kick start and unfortunately i figured it out pretty quick the little post that holds the shaft in was snapped half way through.
