Sandrew's XS400 - v2.0

Re: Sandrew's XS400

There isn't many 33mm clips available. I bought the cheapest available in ebay to be honest.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Meanwhile...Progress of the last two weeks.

New shifter knob and few other things.

Personally I wouldn't recommend anyone buying used rearsets, I needed to bend one of the brackets, one on the lever, needed new knob and reposition brake levers stud and finally lot of sanding and polishing to make them look new. Way too much trouble for the money..

New indicators all soldered up.

New, longer and relocated umm, what is that... brake rod pulling thing..

Next up was bracket for the clocks.

Then I took the upper yoke.
IMG_20120510_160000.jpg

And cut off the stock gauges mounts and filed down molding lines.

IMG_20120510_180052.jpg

Then sanded, sanded and sanded some more.. polished.

Coming together.

Headers need 5.5cm stretch so my shorty muffles could clear rearsets.

Well wasn't this a long one?

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Looks like you're running into the same problem as I am, with the kickstand tang getting in the way of the shift lever....

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Actually it's not gonna be a problem, the kickstand will stay under the muffler once it's installed.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

I suppose I should have thought of that. I'm running a 2 into 1 on the other side, so I don't have a pipe to so the stand. I guest that's an easy fix, then. Lol.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Exhaust done

Left aluminum piece is for joining mufflers and pipes and on the right is the stretching piece (55mm).

Stretched.

And as the budget reached the limits ages ago and I couldn't afford the wrap therefor I'm gonna live with the heat resistant coating for now.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Honestly, I'd leave it anyway. Heat wrap is so overdone...

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Well as of today, I think we can say the first phase of this build is done. There is a long list of minor things to do, but my time is up for now and it will get the facelift next fall.

It runs smooths and sounds great, what more to expect..

Planning a photo shoot tomorrow or the day after but in the meantime here's a few teasers.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

Just what I needed at the end of the day. Little motivation to get mine going again and finish all the little small projects.

Attention to detail...nicely done.

Re: Sandrew's XS400

It's lookin good but i recommend a mudguard where the frame meets the swing arm bracket. Otherwise your gonna be slingin shit all over your pretty engine.

Re: Sandrew's XS400 - Facelift in progress !

Woop, I totally forgot about this thread over here.
I think its only fair to give you guys 'a life after DTT Botm'.

Well earlier this year I added some Hagons at the back and installed a dirt bike throttle assembly, also simplified the wiring a bit (removed right and switches).
The had a chance to proudly stand at Yamahas box in the largest fair in Country.

Shortly after, Pipeburn did an entry on it. Put it on the market and got a buyer, everything was looking good and then like usual when least expected it happend...

'Tell me what you don't like about yourself .'

On the pictures it may look nothing serious but everyone who's crashed a bike knows every part gets a bite in collision.
I had 2 choices: sell it as is as the buyer was still interested (for a considerably smaller amount, obv) or get my broken hand healed and get her also back on her feet again. After a few days of deciding I took the second choice.
