Bad back and other bad news

Re: Bad back

We have a chiro near here that does the mostly gentle "adjustments". No head yanking neck breaking stuff.

What I find useful is to lie face down on the table with that white noise new age music in the background and what works is that as I lie there and just relax, the tension in the core muscles releases and I come out 1/2 inch or more taller than I went in. By relaxing the muscles, the pressure is relieved and my neck and back are much better.

Then there's the other sort of recreational massage that does nothing for the problem but helps distract you so you forget about the pain

Re: Bad back

LOl,
I have an inversion table and hang upside down which helps a bit.
If I wear a body belt (from my MX days ;D ) I can make it about 20ft before my legs start hurting
Apparently, pre-existing injuries don't count for Workman's comp (The fact I injured it a few years ago isn't taken into account, they probably didn't fix me right that time :( )

Re: Bad back

I won't use a male chiropractor, the women use position, and timing with your breathing/muscle relaxation, while the men tend to use brute force.
I'm sure not all guys are to forceful, but the ones I have tried have been.

People gripe about going to multiple visits to a chiro, but if you think about it, you usually screwed your back up over time. Why shouldn't the repair be done over time?

More bad news today.
Surgeon went through MRI and nerve conduction tests I had on my arm/shoulder.
I need 2 more surgeries, the Ulnar Nerve Relocation didn't work and needs doing over, then, when that heals up, I need surgery on my shoulder.
It explains why I spend two days in agony after a 80~100 mile ride :'(
That's the end of my riding or working on stuff until sometime next year :(

That sucks PJ!
I hope and pray that they can get you some relief. Taking two days (or two weeks) to recuperate after a day of fun, sure gets old.

Sorry to hear about the discs, that has to hurt, my dad sliped a disc from falling off a building and it seemed pretty painful. Hope you get better (would a topscy turby work? being serious btw)

I have enough trouble sleeping but but after even a short ride (45~ miles each way) everything hurts much worse
The elbow problem is degenerative so needs doing as soon as possible, riding is making it worse (even though I've only been out twice since June)
I really will go nuts not being able to do anything
As I said earlier, I have an inversion table (not a Teeter but similar)
I'm not sure if it helps but I use it anyway ;)

Had another meeting with surgeon about MRI results.
He's done a 180 on my 'fit for work, no restrictions'
No riding bikes either :(
Workmans comp insurance has authorised both surgeries, but, the real bad news, it's going to take at least 6 months recovery.
Went to mediation this morning, looks like it's going to end up in court about my back injury.
Company dismissed it on two counts, first, I didn't notify within 30 days, second, they say I didn't do it in work
Not a good day :'(

I get you, hence the "good" Chiropractor, they exist, but few and far between, a bad one will F' you up good. The one I found was amazing, and the wait to see him for anything but emergencies is like 3 months. I have since been to a few because I have moved that I wouldn't let touch me after a 5 min conversation.... now my massage therapist is great 1 hour with her.......... ;D

My parents are both chiropractors and i would agree completely that there are good and bad ones. I know that I personally have been hurt seriously in multiple areas of my body, including tearing a ligament and destroying cartilage in my knee this past spring. GOOD chiropractors can be the best thing in the world. A friend that was in a serious car accident can attest to that. Tried everything from physio to surgery, and wasnt until she started to have chiropractic treatments that any improvement was made.

BAD chiropractors still exist however. It's like having a good or bad doctor. Unfortunately it happens and can make problems worse. CHeck their background, specialty areas. I know my dad's specialty area is sports injuries. My mothers is vehicle accidents. Find out if any claims have been made against them, and what for.

Just my opinion.

Sorry to hear about your health PJ. Take it day by day. Hopefully things turn around and you start to hear some good news soon.

Dude I feel for you ! I have back pain but no where like yourself and I know how I feel like hammered sh#t !Keep your head up and don't let it get you down .

Had follow up this afternoon, stitches are out.
Scar is bigger than last time, surgeon said nerve bundle was bad then REAL bad for about a one inch section, totally restricted.
I think he said he had to use a 'A??????scope' (used in 'keyhole surgery) to see what was going on, even though my arm was 'opened up' (I think that's what the black/red ovalbit is in pic)
Not allowed to pick up anything heavier than a cup of coffee for next 4 weeks.

That's a doozie, PJ! Sounds promising about the nerves though. Hopefully it's all cleared up.

That'll leave a mar.......no, even *I* can't go there.

Hope that heals up quick for you.

I forgot to mention, saw back specialist before Christmas, he had MRI I had done in 2006.
Different disc is now messed up
He told me original did start to heal (Don't remember having MRI in '06? ::) )

jesus man... that looks painful, yoiu tried any Physical therapy or are they saying it is too bad for that
