Finding out spoke guage/thread/nipple size etc.

I have a Yamaha rd350 and I want to get new nipples to replace the junky ones I have. Problem is, I have no clue how to find out the thread size of them. When you go to places like Buchanan Spokes, they have many options of thread size.. Anybody got an idea?

First, I never saw spokes in an engine?
Friends experience, Buchanan's are not very helpful, they want you to buy full sets.
You can get a pitch gauge and measure pitch and a vernier to measure diameter.
Then you can either look up a chart for gauge or realise rolled thread is undersize or 'nominal' diameter
What's so nasty about the nipples?
If they were nickel plated steel and gone rusty, the spokes will be in the same condition or worse

I'm with PJ on this one - Buchanans will help.......by telling you to buy their entire set. There are plenty of spoke/nipple sets on ebay:

Couldn't find the "wheel forum".. I think I will just ship one to one of those providers and ask them to tell me the size. I know ebay has tons of full sets from Taiwan, but all I want are the nipples. Yes spokes were a little rought but I sandlasted them and powdercoated them black.

Measure them.
It's easy and may be surprising on size, plus, even if you buy a couple of pitch gauges, you will use them again (you can't have too many tools ;D
They could be metric or imperial size, BSF, BSW or special thread
In the long run, it's cheaper and safer to get the right parts rather than guessing something will sorta fit
