83 GR650 chop

Hope everyone had a good christmas and got some goodies.

Christmas eve I found another XS400 in need of rescue so picked it up for $200 for my wife. She's short so these narrow little bikes are a perfect fit for her. Not sure what direction she wants to go with that, maybe cafe racer-ish? We'll see. Anyway, picked it up Christmas day, needs lots of work. Guy also had a front lace wheel with drum and lower fork legs laying around that look to be bolt on, just need cleaning so got them as well. Carbs are completely seized up but the engine seems to have compression and isn't seized up so that's what matters.

Also on Christmas eve we gave my father-in-law the Maxim 650 I got dirt cheap and fixed up for him as a gift this year. New tires, brakes, fluids, carbs all gone through, ready to go. Complete with pink bow.

Slow progress with my bike. But the weather is supposed to get cold now so pushed it out to see it the stance is. Just how I visioned!! So that's good.

Battery box, electronic box and rear fender mounts are next on my list. Would like to get this mostly finished up before I focus on the 2 xs400's.

I've wrapped up (almost) my wifes XS400 build I got at the start of this year. Full build thread here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=64461.15

Been a long time since I've done any work to this build but now that one is finished I can get back to work on mine.

Finish welded the frame and swingarm tubing. I also changed the seat angle since I didn't like how much of an angle it was on before. Shortened the kickstand mount to gain clearance on left corners in a lean and also shortened the kickstand itself.

I changed up the area under the tank to make better use of it for hiding electronics and coils. Moved the tank mounts to the neck of the frame instead. Battery and reg/rec will be mounted where the old center stand was. Hoping to be able to run the wiring through the backbone tubing.

Welded up new mufflers.

Don't have the mufflers perfect here, still have to make some hangers for them.

However, I've found another project that I'm going to start working on as well so this may get put to the back-burner for a few weeks again.

Shoving this YZF600 motor into this 90's blaster frame.

Cut some tubing to fit my rear brake/turn signals.

The center LED will be dim as tail-light and then full brightness for brake. Outer two will be off normally, full brightness for brake light and flash as turn-signal.

Photobucket seems down right now so no pics loading or uploading.

Anyway, I'm going with a green/white theme on my bike. The white is going to be either metallic "Heavy White" powder or "Pearlescent White" with a green shimmer pearl clear. The green is "Granny Smith Sparkle" metallic powder.

I'm not sure which of the wheels I like more so was looking to see what you guys thought.

White inside/green out or vice versa?

Here is the granny smith green

And how the white and green pearl clear will look

It really must have, he searched for the video and linked it and everything.

Perhaps I should just go all black and grey. Don't think I've saw a black or grey bike on here before.

It'll be powder coat so I'll have to throw some stones at it but I hear you.

I think in the end it'll look good with the colors. If not it'll definitely be different.

Also, no butt-hurt feelings over here so no one take it that way, I'm here for the fun! I mean, I did build a pink bike so...

A little extra effort was required in this particular case. ;D

The colors seem to work well together overall and I love the pink bike you built. Definitely will be watching!
