Importing a bike from the US to the UK?

Hey all, I have a friend in the UK who has a couple bikes but is interested in me picking something up for him here and shipping it to the UK -- certain Japanese bikes are much rarer over there than here. Anyone ever imported an old bike from the US to the UK? He's looking for basic help -- shippers, customs fees, inspections, etc. Thanks.
