Big Dark Love... Another old XS chop.
« on: Dec 03, 2016, 17:04:26 »
Got this motor from Mr.E so long ago I don't remember the details. I know it originated with him, got transferred to Hurrco about 100 years ago and this morning I was finally able to head into the wasteland known as Ohio to get it ;)

Motor is basically a basket case and will be my first top to bottom four stroke engine re-do. Pretty simple motor for the most part, so no biggie. Seems like all the expensive stuff is here so that's nice.

Someone down the line holed a piston, but it looks like there are two good ones in the extra shit bin. Cylinder head will need a good going over, but nothing looks catastrophic. Just a little surface rust. Will likely toss some new valves/guides in while I'm there. They're cheap.

Hardtail section is Monster Craftsman. Used their stuff before and it's always well built.

On to the pics...

I'm really stoked on the tank. Glass KR replica I picked up this AM (thanks Levi!!!). Gle coat flake makes me moist lol. Needs buffed out but it's RAD.

Wheels are going to be Suzuki GS "snowflake" or "star" mags. 19f disc and 18r drum. I have an old 2-1 headwr lying somewhere I'll likely scavenge to make a cool one of a kind exhaust.

Not sure on the seat, but probably a basic Bates style solo sprung unit.

Not doing anything revolutionary here. Just a nice, clean 70s style chop.

And the name, Big Dark Love. I like to name projects after some of my favorite songs:

That tank looks great on that frame. I'll be following this build.

Right on. Git me some popcorn and watch. The GS ninja stars will be right at home on this thing.
