Is this motor toast?

Here's the story.
200 bucks, for a running XR200.
BUT the PO claims that after rebuilding the motors top end, it was running and then died. Upon inspection they said they found out the valve retainer clip came off.
They haven't run or mess with the back since... so they so.

Is this detrimental to a motor?
I'm not sure if this is a great deal or not and I can't afford or have the space to do a full engine rebuild if it's messed up.

If he means the valve collets then that means the valve has dropped into the cylinder and yes that is detrimental to the motor.


Only takes a millisecond for this to happen when the motor is running and ruin the top end.

Its a shit deal.

So it's not really "running" then is it.

I'd still pay $200 for a complete bike. I wouldn't call it a shit deal, but it's not a runner either.

Sounds like a good opportunity to swap an xr400 engine in the xr200 chassis...
