The pitted/rusty surface of my flywheel is wearing the phenolic block on my points prematurely fast. Is there a way I can restore the surface? I took some sandpaper and sanded off the rust, but the pits remain. Can i fill them with JB weld and then scrape it smooth? If my thinking is correct I only need the surface to be 100% accurate in diameter at the place where the points open and the spark fires.
Kawasaki F8 enduro. The flywheel fits over the crank and the points ride on the inner surface of the flywheel. It's throwing the timing off in a matter of several hundred miles and I'm already adjusted out as far as they will go. I'm trying to find a way to fix it without having to adjust/replace points on the regular.
