WTB : Cafe Racer..

Hi guys,
I am looking for something tidy, no mechanical haggles as I am mechanically challenged.
I prefer a Honda as they don't break easy.. and yes I am probably going to buy something already done and ready to go.

I am looking for something cheap in bike world (2-4K depending on the bike).. easy to insure (sold my R1 because of that :)), and that looks 'bad' :)... for me, not shiny and even some scuffs are something I can live with but the form and mechanical soundness are more important.

If you have anything.. please let me know..

In the Greater Toronto Area please ...

There's a low mileage burgundy Thruxton for sale at Barrie Harley-Davidson. A customer traded it in. Maybe around the $7000 area.

ALWAYS check http://www.classicbikeexchange.com/classicbike%20SALE1.htm

We've all seen fantastic bikes go through there... some only last for hours so you need to check often.

And the last bike I bought (1974 XS650) I picked up at my local CVMG meeting.

Most of these guys have multiple bikes in their garages and I got mine, with $2500 in mechanical restoration done for $1000 because the guy wanted to get it out of his garage and I was a member... pays to network face-to-face.

Thanks guys..

I appreciate the help..

There was this cool Kawi on this site.. ohh it was sold.. probably like you said in 5 minutes :) LOL

A.K.

Get a Yamaha XS650 / 650 Special. These two are the same bike - cosmetically you're looking at a GS450 (Suzuki) tank, fibreglass seat, exhaust, clipons and rearsets added to the bike. There was a TON more work put into it of course - the green bike just sold, asking price was $4K.

Yamaha XS650 / 650 Special. $1,000 - $1,500 for a running bike and the rest is up to your imagination.

Hey man, thanks for the advice.. but like I stated, I am really not looking to work on anythying... I am the canada's worst handy man champ :) LOL

Slapping on a different tank and seat and handlebars isn't a big deal - no mechanical aptitude required, and you'll get lots of volunteer help around here.

There are some nice bikes out there - $1,700 for a 1978 CB750K on Kijiji or Craigslist for example. Not a lot of ready-made cafe racers.

Also check out the buy/sell boards at www.vrra.ca and www.cvmg.ca

this 1976 CB750 looks like a nice bike:

maybe a bit heavy, but great aesthetics for a cafe bike. throw a set of clubman bars on it, and you're basically there. but lots of potential to do more if you want.

another option would be to look for a big GS suzuki from the early 1980s. i think the japanese started off the 1970s with big power bikes, and it took about 10 years for the handling to catch up. i've read a few places that the GSs got them both right.

This could be the makings of a sweet cafe bike ..... But hurry these bikes don't last very long ..... $1200.00

Classic 1973 Honda CB350/Four. All Original and in great shape. Starts and runs good. New battery. Tires have lots of tread but may be kind of dry. Ride it the way it is or a great restoration project. Correct grab bar and rear signal lights have been added since pic was taken. Perfect starter bike. Sold as is. 905-623-9330

Is there anything this crew likes more than shopping for bikes? :D

Other than wrenchin'n'ridnn of course...

and maybe whenchin' while we're at it...

In the top 5 things to do anyway :D

It's a labour of love man.

The only reason they get sold is to free up $$$, space and spousal tolerance for the next one :D

My bikes are always for sale, so long as the right offer is made. They can always be replaced, which is 3/4 the fun :)

Just sent you a PM with my email address :).. btw.. I was not talking about your Kawi on that site.. it is nice.. but not my taste :).. the other Kawi (S2) burgandi.. was really more like something I loved looking at.

:)

I don't have a Kawasaki actually.

I have a 1975 all original BMW R75/6 (in the Show n Shine section) and am building an XS650 based cafe racer (Big Arse Projects section). Someone walks up to me with $6,000 for the BMW and they can have it :)
