sucken diesel!
I've always loved the old bikes and have restored a couple of bikes over the years mainly hondas because they're basicly bullet proof.I love the cafe style.there are limited services available in ireland like chroming etc but i decided to give it a go! the cm400 was the first cheap twin to cross my path. I did a bit of research and found they had potential..Thats where i found DTT and i have to say if i was'nt convinced about the build before this site made up my mind.Well done to the guys and gals who put the work in behind the scenes. The wealth of knowledge here is invaluable ;).please feel free to criticise, all advise taken well!!

Thought i could cut a few corners (excuse the pun) using stock seat pan but it lost all rigidity once the folds went from it. would have been handy at the tank end and mount. I dont have access to a mig plant just a small arc welder which would eat the seat pan :(

Thanks Maritime! Thats why i called it a brat because i might not manage the (strict) criteria of a cafe ;D

I like the look of a short rear mudguard (fender) so i plav on using it for now but that may change as the bike develops!

I scrapped plan A for the seat and decided to make my own!I was'nt too keen on taking the fibre gass route! I just don't think they're sturdy enough but then again I've never riden one!! I used 8mm bar for the frame, perhaps a little heavy and used the origional anchor point at the front and used some angle at the rear which covers the cut frame end also. It does'nt budge!

Cool seat. I find when you use the dip and then flatten the top it makes the seat look like it was made for the bike instead of an afterthought. Nice work.

Thanks joon! Is a little heavier than I would like but it's rock solid and still lighter than the original seat and frame section that was removed :D

Yeah me too maritime. I kept the straight in line with the tank base so it still Flows but doesn't look too out of place!

Nice work with the seat. My 1963 Honda has a steel based exercise machine seat that I need to build a similar mounting pan for. Was thinking along the same lines as you built, and with a chunk of old (aircooled type old) VW Beetle bumper as the rear fender, I can see now it will work just fine.

Very nice take on a TT or flattrack style seat for a very hard to fit bike. Now you guys have me considering a 400/450 based for the next one.

I tacked the bar to the frame and went from there ;)I used a heat gun to strip the tank.I've been told that paint striper can soak into the metal and make a mess of a new paint job.true??I was surprised how easy the knee dents were. the tank seemed to naturaly crease that way.The tank on the e model is a nice size and shape but has one of those damn lids! I thought of welding the lid and fixing a cap on top but it was too high so i removed it and its fixings and braised a collar onto it to take a monza cap!I gave it a coat of primer just to seal it because the pait work is on the long finger until santa comes ::)

thanks maritime! Going to spend a few quid and get paint done properly.Thinking of black or really dark green with the hump in the center done in ivory carried through to seat pan! I polished the front forks today and turned a few speed stripes into them. I was a bit anxious as once started there's no going back! But they turned out ok..

Wow those look great. Doing anything to prevent oxidation? I spent a whole winter polishing all the alloy on my CM only to have it look like complete crap after the first ride in the rain. We all know in never rains in Ireland but you may want something to protect it. LOL
