Nepa honda cl175 " juicer" field bomber/hill climb build

This is a very ghetto build and could possibly offend people and sorry in advance but to each their own.

Im rushing to have this finished for march 25 appmotojam is having their snow hill climb event that I can't wait to take this too. Last event I blew up my kd80 the week of, blown motor and seized trans :/

What's going on, my name is Rob I have a 1970 honda cl175 I got as a wedding present from my cousin(I was planning on buying it after the wedding) so I lucked out with that..Anyway he had it for years just sitting and I talked to my uncle trying to find out if it ever ran. He was like yeah but it seemed to run on one cylinder..I was like great I just got a piece of garbage. Once I got it to my house first thing was oil change, drain gas and spark plugs. That's when I discovered that one plug boot wasn't connected all the way, put new plugs in and oil charged the battery started right up then died shortly after.

I took the carbs apart only to find out both float bowls where Jb welded covering the screw port to check if you have fuel. Then the previous owner tried sealing the tank and let the stuff go through the carbs and on top of that the one float had a pin hole in it and both where out of adjustment..I went online and found a company called wincycles and bought two brand new carbs (they come pre set and tuned for factory settings) I still need to fine tune them since I have pod filters and chopped exhaust currently. (I know everyone hates that) I am planning on re jetting them but I don't know what size to run so that's where I'm at with that. I adjusted the air fuel mixture along with idle to make it a tad richer since it was bogging and backfiring as if it was lean no black smoke. I do have an owners manual which I am reading as I go.

Besides that junk, next was the wiring...my god I took the headlight off along with the controls on the handle bars, I'm sure you honda guys know the wiring runs through the handle bars. What a mess, the previous owner before my cousin used three different wiring harness for it..wires twisted together and connected with wire nuts. Once it was apart and out back together it wouldn't start even with the same wiring setup they had.

When I took the controls off they fell apart in my hand I said screw it since its going to be a weekend field bomber/hill climber I just deleted everything besides the headlight. I bought a universal push start and mounted it in the tool box (ill get pictures of it) the kill switch doesn't even work I just shut it off with the key.
So for now it runs and starts with the aftermarket button.

I cut the fenders along with the seat because it was rotting at the half way point. I cut that in half and rewrapped it. It looks horrible I don't do upholstery haha. This week if everything goes as planned ill be picking up dirt bike tires for this pig. I'm hoping to run 3.5 rear and 3 up front. (Hopefully tomorrow) I will try to get it updated as much as I can and I will get more photos because you know that's what you're here for right? Well I am sure I'm missing a lot of stuff but here are some photos of my juicer

The day I picked it up - I apologize for the scrappy photos, I took them from my old phone (I took a picture of my phone because I couldnt send them to my new phone)

I also cut the rear pegs off since I won't be riding with anyone. These are some where you can see I started cutting the fenders and seat for some test fitting

Then I thought about mounting the kd80 seat but decided not to

Instead I used the stock seat I hacked up

Then I added this little light visor. It is from a kobalt magnetic tray lid. It was laying on the ground and I was like I wonder if this would fit...haha

Love here you're going so far man, keep it coming!
Just...if you're going to follow suit with that hardball inspiration bike, please, for the love of all things holy put a rear fender on it if there's any chance of your assistance getting stuck between the seat and the tire!

Re: Nepa honda cl175 " juicer" field bomber/hill climb build

So I just took the wheels off to do a mock up of what the bike will look like and its looking like a beast! The pictures really don't do justice to how meaty and big the tires are. I'm hoping to mount them both tonight and if all goes well have it together tomorrow to take it for a rip!

Here are a couple photos I just took.

I hope you guys enjoy them!

Re: Nepa honda cl175 " juicer" field bomber/hill climb build

Well got the tires mounted and as I expected because everything was going way too smooth...pinched the front tube. I'm going to patch it and if it doesn't hold a brand be one is only $16

The second thing I ran into was since the tire was taller I had to pull the wheel back further causing the chain to be short. I hacked up a spare chain from my blown up kd80 and added 4 links to it which works fine now. I'm planning on patching it tonight and ill let it sit over night for it to seal. Its a very small pin hole I had to of caught it when prying it up

Well patched the tube and it holds! I also tried a little paint marker. I'm only going to paint the Dunlop so its not over kill. Some may like it, some may not.

Re: Nepa honda cl175 " juicer" field bomber/hill climb build

Whole bunk of fail at the motojam....we go to unload the bikes..my cousins yz125's peg was jammed into my starter button (in the tool storage) breaking the button and having the starter stuck in the cranking position...undid wiring to rig it all day.
Next we did a practice run and then I popped my rear tube 20 feet up the hill(I had 10 psi being stupid) I had to use zip ties from a guy we met there to hold the tire to rim since my rim was spinning inside the tire.

Then I go to take it for a spin... Hit the snow get into second gear and bam dies..i try to start it no power at all. I pull the seat to make sure all wires are connected and they where then I was like crap I bet the fuse blew, which is what happened
7e1238da019d17a04b51ca819355bf55.jpg

Of course nobody had one so I bypassed the fuse to be able to do my race....yeah that didn't go as planned.

I got it running go rip up the hill to the starting line half way up dies the same way..pull the seat to look at everything since the started didn't work and found a wire that my seat has been crushing the whole time and shorting the whole system.

That's when I through in the towel and said I'm going to eat h my cousin race, thank god I left when I did because he was up next as I got to the top! I ended up not being able to race but I had such a good time because I was able to ride around for a little before it crapped out.

I made a new starter button and got rid of the tool box storage last night. Now to get new main jets and pilot jets to make the juicer run 100% correct for once.

Here are some photos I took while I was there

That's it for now until I pull the rear to see how terrible the tube is, ill most likely buy a brand new one and try to put a bead lock in. Then the jets to make it run perfect since it was hit or miss this weekend on top of all the junk that happened

Re: Nepa honda cl175 " juicer" field bomber/hill climb build

Haha thank you.
I did a little work on the juicer for the first time since I got back. I haven't had any time too, I welded on some washers in the exhaust for baffles (like the lollipop mod) and for some back pressure which helped and quieted it down a lot.

I am still fine tuning it and taking my time but I'm really leaning towards rejetting( I think I need to up the pilot jet) which is probably get mains too but I read a lot to just change one thing at a time so you're not chasing the problem and not figuring it out.

Besides that junk and boring crap here are a couple screenshots I stole from the YouTube video I came across of me during the opening haha I love how this video starts. I will try to post the link, hopefully you can click it if not and are bored copy and paste it
