Hello. Been kicking around here for a little bit have seen some great things and learn new things everyday. Figured I'd start a build thread. Free on craigslist last summer a 75 cb360.
This is the day I brought her home. My son wishing he was old enough to ride.
So the guy that gave it to me said it needs an ignition and air filters. I am doing all the work I am capable of on this build but my cousin is a mechanic/welder/autobody guy who owns a shop with all the tools! He is doing work I am not capable of and helping me with the rest. So got the ignition and some k&n style filters. We got it fired up but something was wrong with the kickstarter mechanism. So my cousin decided to pull the engine which excited me because I wanted to get to polishing! So I need a new "ratchet guide plate" and now of course new seals and gaskets. This is where I am at now. Started wetsanding the crankcase and clutch cover. Scraped out 1" of goop in the bottom end. Also rattle-canned the terrible purple tank flat black. Just for now I haven't decided on a color scheme yet.
This is what I am going for. I am however going to do a 3" ext on the swingarm and a tail hoop/frame ext (dime city). I will get to the pipes and I love the scrambler style but I want to do the shotgun style wrapped. I am thinking tracker or euro bars. Going to get rid of stock tach/speedo and get the speedo on the front fork from cycle x. I got a gel battery and am going to remove the original tool box and put the battery as low as possible. Also fabricate somekind of side covers not really there yet. I have a long way to go and this build will probably take a while due to not having shit tons of money all at once. So next up is fix the ratchet guide plate and put the motor back in and get it running proper than tear down and do the swingarm and seat than paint and all the rest.....I think I am not sure the order of what to do. Any thoughts are definitely welcome.
Thanks
Yeah I have found those ones! They also have a seal kit for $38.00. I was just hoping that I wouldn't have to pay $76 for gaskets and seals. I'm sure they are quality I guess I should just spend the money now instead of replacing crappy ones later.
Thanks for the reply.
Pj that is a sexy bike! Solo seat is not for me though. Whats that container-ish thing under the seat. Battery electric box?
I'll be keeping ya'll posted going to finish polishing up the engine and stripping the frame down this week. I have my kickstarter part due in this week and I still need to find a lower end gasket set that isn't to pricey. This is a BUDGET build. Well not a budget build I just can't dump a lot at once.
Well.. Oil seal and lower end gasket should be coming in hopefully by the weeked. The kickstarter part I need should be here tomorrow......My work is moving (from next door to me ) so I have to get my 87 rebel on the road so I can earn $$$$. So once I get the engine stuff its more polishing and cleanup and than going to put it back in to test and than pull it back up an start on the frame!!! Hopefully by than I'll have some money for rear hoop....paint....blinkers.....and everything else....etc.
Guide plate and lower end gaskets came in today. No $$ to spend for a couple weeks but am going to the shop this weekend to finish the engine polishing and start cleaning up the front end and seein what need sandblastin!!! Hopefully my oil seals will be in by than Pics will follow.
Dying for the work week to be over so I can get into this as much as I can. Until than here is another inspirational pic. I especially love the seat on this bike.
So this build is going to be on hold til the riding season is over. I had to get rid of the purple. Painted the tail light bracket and front fender flat black. Rattle can! Polished the covers to the best of my ability. Fixed the kickstarter problem and put new gaskets and seals on the bottom end. Going to degrease and douche the frame than she'll be put back only to completely torn do wn this winter. I will post more pics when she is together and running.
