Maybe silly but it just felt right giving it a thick coat of VHT flame proof.

Thanks for those links...........

Gotta go out and try that strap thingie on my 350f to pull the carbs.

Can you elaborate more on how you did it?

All my so called running projects have really bad carb issues that stops me from riding either.

I dont recall what I hooked the ratchet strap too. Frame or shocks. But just ratchet the thing until it gives you room to work.

Oh no you gotta get the carbs sorted dude, and ride.

Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

Just like cleaning these damned discs...no fun. Thank god the chore is over with.

Soaked em in simple green then carb cleaner then orange hand cleaner 4-5 days,

scrubbing them til my brass wire brush and my fingers was down to the nubs.

Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

Found an hour this morning.

Less than ideal test conditions = cold engine.

Numbers Not factory fresh. Better than disappointing, it MIGHT improve after a bit more running.

Re: Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

The good is all are the same, cold engine that has sat, those are not terrible. Run it in some more and they may go up and the leakage should improve too.

Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

This engine shows 13k on the clock.

Thanks bud, yeah numbers came up on both Hondamatic and Piglet after running a bit.

Do you think its just the rings are sticky in pistons. And just need the heating and fresh lube in there?

I couldn't detect any leaking from anywhere. exhaust, intakes or dip stick hole.

The spare engine Im picking up from Hurcos house Labor Day weekend. Has a "claimed" 7k miles.

It will be interesting to see its numbers.

Re: Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

Dry sticky rings yes. Put just a spray of oil in each plug hole and turn it over a few times, it shoukd free up the rings and help.

I gave each cylinder a shot of pentetrant when installing gauges.just to ensure they had a little something in there.

Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

I sure wasn't expecting 3.7qts. Now I got a bit of mess on the floor. Haha

Re: A $450, 400 four - parts is parts.

This is a bit of an unexpected start on this project for me.
As Rachel has had me tied up w Honey Do's all summer.

Then she asked this morning, "Are you gonna have this bike ready for Barbers?"

HAHA!!!

So what? Like 7 weeks away!!!!

It wont be "Done-DONE". But Im gonna do my best best to have it running and riding...good enough.

Nothing like a dead line to motivate a project. haha. :p

I will promise if I do make the deadline. It sure wont be pretty. ;D

Re: 400 four - dry and dirty

Took the guy in the vid an easy 20 seconds...

Me? 10 minutes of cussing, wiggling, pulling and pushing.

Then it just popped right out, pert near by itself. hahaha

Thanks for the trick Kiley. 8)

Re: 400 four - dry and dirty

Why did you pull the motor? Numbers looked decent for something that hasn't been run?

Re: Re: 400 four - dry and dirty

You have seen how Eric works right? He can't get every scrap or old grease and grime off the frame if the motors in the way LOL. ;D
