I have a method for dealing with greasy rags. First of all, if a rag is REALLY greasy, I throw it out.
I have a mop bucket at my shop. I fill it with hot water, and laundry detergent. I poke the rags with a stick, and pre-wash them a couple times. The mop bucket has a wringer, so it's easy to wash the rags, wring them out, and wash them again before I bring them home to put in the washing machine.
I segregate my rags. The really dirty ones do not get washed with the sorta dirty ones. So, I have two sets of rags...The ones that are permanently stained, and the ones that are still in pretty good shape.
