guys..after thinking about doing a cafe with my 77cb550K, I've switched gears and want to make it a bratstyle bike.

I'm a details guys and have a vision of what I want outta the bike, but need some imput on what i need to do to get there, and if I can get the look right?!

My biggest hurdle will be the tank, exhaust, light...to get the right lines with the seat. Tires and bars too.

Here's my starting point, my vanilla cb550

Here's sort of my goal(s) (*wish I knew who to credit for the pics, I just got them off other threads, awesome bikes!)

Can ya'll help me out with some ideas.
1. will the stock tank work?
2. exhaust mac 4-1 or do i have some other options I couldn't find?
3. tires, love the firestones on the pink bike
4. headlight?
5. bars, drag, clip on, or?

Thanks for any help, advice, so on... -Drew

I really like the Brat Style look. I just picked up an xs650 for a Brat. Here's one of my favorites.

IMO,

Bratstyles are fairly easy to accomplish. Bob the fenders, keep the stock tank and exhaust. Flatten the seat/tuck and roll, then switch out the handle bars for mild apes or street tracker bars. And as far as tires go, firestones look awesome! There's also coker whitewalls and shinkos. And the Avon safety milage tire. (of course switching to those tires might require you to re-lace your hub to a different rim)

again, just my opinion. good luck man.

The black one (brown seat) is the direction i am going with my KZ650. I LOVE that look. I'm partial to the look of clip on bars. I lowered the front end of my bike so it's a must for me to use the clips but together with the lower stance it enhanced the bike by ten.
good luck with your build!

thanks guys...

Bryan that pic looks good!

Summerfest, yes i love the stance of the black bike!

Working out my carbs right now, and saving $...

does anyone know what kind of rims these bikes are running? seems like stock would be too skinny for such a fat tire, could be wrong tho.

If you hadn't seen these two bikes I think they are some of the best and my personal inspiration for my CB450 build.

Beautiful examples, definitely the direction I'm going with my 550 too, in retrospect, I wish I went with a 450 or 360 base as I feel twins suit this style better that the four pots.

I completely agree with reesea17's suggestion about checking out Holiday customs, they have a knack for nailing a bike's stance. This is one of their early ones that I'm basing my build on:

@reesea17 the first bike is really awesome

It's quite a famous bike on google. It was made by Jared Johnson of Holiday customs, both bikes I posted were actually.
