CB400F, the water bike.

It should be a little different. I wanted to do it mainly becauae I though it would be intersting. The steering stem is done, now to order bearings and plan the upper clamp out.

I love unusual solutions and out of the box thinking but the other half of my brain asks "is that strong enough". Is it stiff enough for the 400 which I would think would be much heavier than its donor?

The bike it came off of was about 300lbs dry and 30hp. So I probably won't be that far off on weight, and not that much higher on power. I figure even with a 466 kit it'll be 40-45hp, and between 300 and 350lbs dry depending on how much weight I can save.

So no updates for a while, partly holidays, partly bills, and the rest overtime to get ahead. But I got the title sorted out, so maybe I'll have a little more motivation to work on what I can.

Thanks guys, sometimes it can be hard to get the motivation to do more than stare at a project. It's like you know there are things you can do, but you still need to buy stuff, so it all just sits because once you do whatever you know it'll sit anyway. So nothing gets done.

This bike isn't forfotten, just moving slow. Got cruzinimage 54.5mm big bore pistons to go 466. And I got the giant chunk of 4140 to make the front hub and axle out of one piece. Still got a bunch to machine off, but with the .070" depth of cut I have going it might be ready to finish in a few days.

Finally got the front hub roughed. Started out as a 5.125" diameter piece of 4140, now it's 1.28" on the skinny part and 4.8" at the hub side. The axle will finish at 1.181". So now I can start the finish work.

Maybe another 1/2hr on the lathe and then it'll be ready for the mill.

Drilled for wheel studs and rotor bolts. Turned out my m8x1.25 tap is dull so I have to get a new one.

No pictures but I now know I need 2 brown and 2 green rod bearing sets and 5 brown main bearing sets. Right now I gotta save up to get the cylinders bored and clean the cases.
