Project Ground Pounder -1981 Suzuki DR500

Today saw the first crank! She started up and ran with a little bit of coaxing. I didn’t get a video because once it was running it developed a pretty major oil leak. Chased it down and it turned out to be a gouge in the clutch cover where it mates to the engine case where somebody at some point tried to pry it off with a screwdriver. Packed it with RTV and I’ll let it cure while I’m at work. But she runs! To celebrate I rolled it outside to get some profile shots. First time it has seen the light of day since it was a bike. I really dig the stance.

And here’s one with my ugly mug on it to give you an idea of the size. I’m 6’ and it fits like a glove. Very neutral riding position.

Thanks! Now to finish it off with the final leg of the build.

Rad, looks great. I also see the driveway has been smoothed out since I was last there LOL. Will make the hard tail less painful coming and going.

Dude, this thing looks amazing. Love what you've done with it.

One thing that catches my eye is the seat alignment. It looks like the rear of the seat is off center a bit toward the left hand side, the front is skewed a bit to the right, or a little of both.

Yeah it probably is, nothing is bolted down, the seat is just kind of sitting on there right now. I’ll make sure when it’s finally mounted that it’s straight.

Man your bike has just barged its way squarely into my top ten, congrats man this thing is brilliant

Thanks fellas! I figured for posterity’s sake now that I have gotten rid of the PO caused oil leak, this video had to be posted for posterity...
