Hello from Spokane Wa, first build/resto thread!

Been Around the Block
1975 CB550F from original owner with less than 15k original miles!! Yes, those are original side covers made out of unobtanium! Yes the seat is AMAZING, Yes the carbs were as free as and silky smooth as they were when new (no shit!) Yes that is the original Bridgestone super speed front tire. I'm so stoked right now for my girlfriend...(I have "too many") so this one is "hers" see what I did there?! Previous owner still had the original sales contract/pink slip and every registration card for each year he rode it! This was the best Craigslist find ever!! We are so excited and proud to be the new owners! I have the biggest crush on this little Honda! I love messing around with these things but I can tell that this one is going to be special. Do I restore it? Do I cafe it?John, the previous owner, liked the color of the trucks at the company he was working for so much at the time he painted this the same blue. I really dig the funky orange candy flake. It kinda sucks about the paint but what do you do.

Totally know what you mean - I'm playing the angles for the wife's bike/next project too

Great looking ride mate, no wonder you're buzzing. High fives from Montreal, and welcome

Thanks The Jimbonaut! I'm buzzing big time, no doubt. Today I bought a 6" bench buffer and started polishing.

and I was able to get all the other stickers off the plate and the 1975 tab is still in great shape so why not get it licensed with that tab? What do you guys think?

Just a thought - if you're thinking of changing the colour check out houseofkolor. They have some great colours which I've looked into but never used - their Shimrin 2 line (some of it anyway) is also available in rattle cans.

Thanks for the heads up on the paint, I'm pretty sure the paint store by my house is a house of color dealer. My girl likes the blue that the previous owner painted it. I like the candy flake orange.. I know in my heart if I strip that tank I'll want to leave it that way...

In all it took two cans of carb cleaner and bit of scraping with a dental pick. By far the easiest carbs I've done, especially after 28 years of sitting.

They cleaned up nice - did you have to replace any gaskets? Gotta love that carb cleaner - until it gets in paper cuts. That stings like a mother....

Or in the eyes when it comes out of the other holes in the carb LOL

Yes I will have to replace the gaskets. The two carbs that had the lacquer in the bowls were glued on pretty tight. They tore or I would've thrown them right back on just to listen to it run! *side note: the slides moved so freely when I picked it up I thought thing might run...with fresh gas and some starting fluid it did ;) not running well but all four pipes were getting hot!

Ha ha I've never noticed that! This house was built in the mid 70's just like these bikes.

so I was at the triumph dealer today and the owners and I got to talking and they had this sitting in the bushes in the woods at the property they just bought. Well they gave it to me! It's motor is locked up tighter than a nuns c_^+ but it has a set of wheels, front brake, and all kinds of other goodies.

That sissy bar is righteous!! So my girlfriend comes with me just about always when I'm looking at bikes, selling them, whatever right. Well I use the term "molested" to describe the state of bikes that I've come across during my obsession. So when I came across this 550 I was so stoked because it was very un-molested. Well this morning I was out in the garage stripping the frame for paint, mind you she hasn't seen it since we brought it home and it was in one piece...she called me a molester!! I said baby these are good touches!
