MT250 Elsinore: Use NOT as Directed.

Blood, sweat and beers.
Hey everyone,

First post here, figured I'd put up my project for the past couple winters. Started life as a barn-find MT250 Elsinore, completely stripped of lights/electrical and ended up as a kids woods bike. Seller was getting rid of it due to the shift-shaft getting bent and cracking the bottom of the case out from under it. I picked it up for $150 WITH a set of spare cases AND a whole spare bottom end (which was seized). I figured, why not. It also came with an aftermarket pipe... which is cool too.

So, having lost a few of the pictures from the build, I only have the "pretty" before and after from last year, and 'rideable' product picture.

Here's the BEFORE:

As you can see... someone had a field day with the paint scheme. My main goal with this bike was to have a rideable, capable woods bike with some modern touches... I don't have a title for it, and granted, it's a 74' and I could get one... I have no idea the last time it was registered.

Here's the list of what I've done so far:
BODY:
Removed rear hoop of the frame.
Fit new seat cover, fixed rusted out seat-pan.
Fitted 02' RM250 rear and 04' YZ250 front fenders.
Painted everything.

SUSPENSION:
Rear: NOS Redwing shocks.
Front: new seals, spacers, and 15w oil.

BRAKES:
Stock, but new pads.

WHEELS:
Original rims, painted the hubs, new spokes on front.
Cleaned the spokes on rear.
Artraxx tires front and rear.

MOTOR:
New cases, gaskets, bearings, seals.
New Kevlar clutch for CR250
Upjet, new points, new air filter.

MISC:
Random cables, wiring, and sticker kit.

So... here was mid-build:

I decided to go with a black and red w/gold theme. Motor's blacked out, gold mounts and controls, gold touches on the hubs, tried to keep the stripe theme of the original Elsinore down the tank.

New boots up front.

It didn't have a side cover when I bought it, so I found a hacked up one on flea-bay, for 5 bucks and bondo'd it back to life. Here you can also see the new seat.

Some assembly done, got it in a roller. No carb installed yet, but you can at least see it take shape. Also clear-coated the tank.

All those OEM stickers came with the kit... so I figured why not.

Pretty much how it sits now...

Now, when I had started this project, I just wanted a fun little woods bike... but now, it's come to my attention that I want to make a sort of tracker out of it.

Future plans consist of:
Brighten up some of the pieces here-and-there.
New piston, possible over-bore to 260-265 if the cases can fit it.
More street/dirt-track style tire.
Lighting of some sort... either a baja kit, or possibly trying to find some stock bits to make it work.
Some form of a different pipe, something low-slung.

I'm actually going to call the RMV here in Mass and see what it would entail getting the thing a title. Maybe just a bill of sale since the bike is so old. We'll see!

MORE TO COME!!!!

You're thinking of the CR250 Elsinore... that one is the full motocrosser... The MT250 was the same bottom end, different head/jug/piston and exhaust and it had lights, battery and horn.

They do have the same frame, tank, suspension, carb, wheels (rear hub is different for cushion drive on the MT)... but other than that... pretty close.

Cool Idea and so far a cool bike. I have a 76 MT125 that I have not decided what to do with maybe you will inspire me to build a brat tracker since finding some replacement parts is pretty hard to do.
