Darkness 78 CB750

So I've been at a standstill for a few weeks waiting on parts. Been researching the GSXR fork swap topics to find where to start but have no idea what year or model fork fits best for the stock 750 characteristics . Hanes manual says 484 free length for the cb but GSXR is in the 700's thinking that can't be right. I'm going to replace the hub, axle, and triple so just need fork length for rake and trail. Asking for some help in being pointed in the right direction on lengths

Fork length isnt as much of an issue as getting the geometry right. When doing this swap, the GSXR offset is way too small for good stability on these bikes. Lots of guys go for stock CB offset with the proper spread for the GSXR components. That helps get back to more sensible trail numbers. I would be happy to help with a set of custom trees. I have a number of designs available and am my offering is very competitively priced.

That's what I'm looking for is close to stock trail and rake. I figured length is all I needed to figure out because I don't want to change offset of the stem. To long its like a chopper, to short it can't handle corners. Trying to find that sweet spot, and there are a lot of sizes for GSXR forks. The bike I'm referencing used 1000 forks but seems like a lot for this CB

Checked out you're trees and they look really good and a possible buy from me in the future I'm defiantly bookmarking

Got the grinder out today and cut the side panels. Applied a quick texture to see if I like the woodgrain look.

Cut out the electric tray as well. Bent up the corners with my fancy new metal break lol. I'm happy with the results and plenty of room inside. Sides need welded next.

Front end finally on! Was a little challenging but am moving closer to completion. The rim and hub are going in for powder coating so I only have to rebuild the wheel once lol

How have you managed to insert the right Brook grip into the throttle tube.
The grip is 22mm as the clip-on right?
The throttle tube should be around 24.5mm or 25mm.

I had to tear apart the grip. I bored out the aluminum end parts and re-taped the leather. You're right about the sizing as is why I couldn't bore out the aluminum sleeve lol

Ok gents, after a month or so I put the wheel back together. Had the rim and custom hub powder coated and used new SS spokes as I didn't want to redo anything in the future. This was my first time for everything including removing and installing the tire/tube, and lacing a wheel. The lacing and truing was tedious but got it locked in straight. Ran into a problem today when I tried to install the calipers. The rotors are in the middle where they should be but is now hitting the spokes. Any ideas on what is causing this? I thought maybe I had the forks backwards but the air dampen knob for the forks should face outward right? Need some input please

So it's been a couple of months since we moved into our new house and haven't done much with the bike. Wanted to show what the garage looks like now

My good friend Anthony helped with figuring out the front wheel problem. I laced it wrong because of the new gsxr hub and tried to replicate the OE wheel pattern. Took it all apart and relaced the wheel and calipers fit perfect now. The next step was welding the frame hoop together finally so I could start making my seat. I also welded the rear set mounts so linkages are in the future

That floor came out awesome. Is that one of those squeegee-on epoxy coatings?
Yes sir, used the Rust-Oleum epoxy flooring. Was a lot of prep work and money but so happy I did it.

Cut up some metal and welding the pan together this week. Waiting on my latch mailed arrival for tomorrow. Super excited to install it and show my idea for a sleek hidden latch. Foam cutting and apulstery to come, stay tuned

Nice looking build so far! I recently installed one of those m-units on a bike really nice stuff. I have a 78 SOHC such a great motor for the street.
Keep up the good work.
