I think it started in 1978. All the late 70s and early 80s Hondas I've worked on had this feature.
 
I did recently swap in a spare new 360? left control, I had laying around on the 400F.

So the 400F now kills the front parking lights when I use the turn signals.

1975 400F, And its funny cause you made the harness for this bike.

Funny. The wiring diagram I've used for the 350F and 400F still shows the old style.

Clymer has been known to have it wrong from time-to-time, though.

But if your bike has a black/red wire, then it usually has a starter motor cutout for the headlight.
