CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland "got some nice lines now"

cb400f caferacer

Dont buy your ride build it
Hi Guys n Girls,

My name is Alex, im 22 and live togheter with my girlfriend in Rotterdam.
I was following a lot your projects and decided i wanted to do a CR myself.

I went to a scrapyard and asked for a old bike, the owner asked me witch bike i adored the most. So i told him that i really like the cb400.
The guy started laughing, he told me he just brought one to get destoyed, he gave me the number of the previous owner and told me that if i'll give him a call i probably could save the bike's life in return for 2 6 packs of Heineken.

So i jumpt in the car and called the guy, he was really exited that his old bike (his dad was the first owner) would be "restored".
The next day i drove to the guy an pickt it up.

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

So i started really working on the bike,
cause of the little space i have in my garage i started on removing the ugly fender and seat, and choped the rear of the frame, I'll be making a loop next weekend for this.

Also started on cleaning the front of the bike ( headlight blinkers etc,- )

And did some pre-test start stuff, drained and cleand the tank, started cleaning the carbs ( pics will follow later )

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

I never worked with foam or anything like that, so i starterd doing some trying with oasis (green flower blocks) and im amazed how easy that works.

So this is not really going to be the rear seat, but just a first try.

This weekend ill be working on:

Getting the bike started

-cleaning carbs
-fixing some cabling, just to let it run for now
-cleaning pedcock
-mayby some new bougies

Appearence
-trying some thing to get rid of the rust on the rear of the frame
-mocking up the seat ( im gonne try to "attach" it to the tank )
-clean all the smug n old dust from the bike

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

I'm thinking of getting mine cleaned ultra-sonically, not sure if I'll keep the original carbs though, but as soon as I have decided on that I'll go and search for a shop that can do it for cheap.

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

One more picture for today,
Started on a little aluminum plate for the seat, also decided to make the seat to fall over the rear frame.

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

So a quick little update, after a bit of trying around with the oasis foam, i decided to go for it.
Made a bottom of aluminum so i had a nice base to start with, the plan is to follow the bottom line of the tank, ( see purple line on aluminum)

Also want to make the seat a bit te same as in the orange picture, `semi' attached to the tank

not much of a shape jet, but for now:

What?! I think the 400f is one of the sexiest bikes ever! :)
I see you already got the clip-ons. I suck at my timing apparently. Haha I did pm ya back though.
Keep it up, Alex!

Re: CB400F first cafe racer | from Holland

Did not really had a lot of time this weekend, but i don't want to keep the little update for myself,
started cleaning and de-tabbing the triple tree, now i only need to get rit of the big ugly old bar holders.
and started over on the seat ( again ) cause i want to be sure it is symmetrical.. so i called in a little help from uncle Frits (the pussy)

tonight ill be installing the clip-on bars, cant wait to see how that looks on the bike
