Our good friends at Dime City Cycles are the official sponsor of the DO THE TON Bike of the Month Contest!

Dime City Cycles are not only generous sponsors of the site, but they are good friends and incredible supporters of our community. They've been part of our group of friends since the earliest days of DO THE TON over 10 years ago and both DTT and DCC have grown side by side over the years working to foster the garage-built community of enthusiasts.

In addition to gracing the masthead of DO THE TON for a month, Dime City Cycles will recognize the winner with:

  • A spot light on www.dimecitycycles.com
[*]Email announcement to their many fans and customers
[*]Announcement on Dime City Cycles social media profiles reaching thousands and thousands of fellow enthusiasts
[*]Winner receives a prize package from DCC (DCC swag + Gift Card!)

Here are the Nomination Rules:

1. Nominate one of our members' bikes for Bike of the Month - include up to 3 flattering pictures of the bike in question. This is an opportunity to recognize someone who's bike has inspired you.

Please don't nominate your own bike - make sure you have a well detailed build thread, post up in the Show n Shine area etc. and if enough people like your bike, someone will nominate it and maybe you'll see it as our banner in an upcoming month!

The Nomination must be accompanied by the member's User Name, a link to the thread where their bike is best described (Build thread, Show n Shine etc.) and a PHOTO of the bike in question.

2. Someone seconds the nomination (please only second one nomination)

3. Member should accept the nomination - If you're nominating a bike, make sure you're in contact with the owner, that they want the bike included and they accept the nomination. The Nominee should provide some back-story on the project, especially if there is a limited build thread.

4. Bike must be in running roadworthy condition - no basket cases. I know our bikes are never really 'finished' but it should be on the road/track/dirt and rideable.

5. If a bike has been nominated in the previous month but did not win, it should not be included in the current month's contest. Wait 3 months to allow other worthy nominations and then resubmit if you like.

6. Bikes that have won in prior contests should not be included unless they have been modified significantly.

We will accept nominations for a few days till we have a good selection to a limit of 3 bikes per contest.

A poll will be set up and voting will take place for a week or so depending on timing. Whoever ends the voting period with the most votes wins :D

Id like to nominate TREK97's little cl100 "piglet".

Here's the build thread:

I've seen this little tike in person, and she's a real sweetheart, and also a neat story of a little bike that's been in his family being saved.

Haha, showing Piglet some LOVE. ;D My buddy Steve just took him out for a spin yesterday.

You guys are the best, after a crappy morning working on the Black Knight. This makes my whole day.

Thank you and I accept the nom.

Yep, they get all dimpled and wavy...

Lets get some more noms in here and make this thing a contest!!!

I'd like to nominate AdvCo's VanVan. He kicked ass on this rebuild/resto.

Thanks fellas! Pumped to be in the running this month. The Van Van came from canyoncarver's place in New Mexico back to my shop in Houston. It started out as a pretty ratted out turd with a hole in the crankcase. This is the first real nut & bolt resto(mod) that I've done. The bike is an absolute beast on the trails and can hold its on on the road as well. 8)

Oh we still have the knobbies, hence it is the Texas two step. However it was a lot of fun on the grass with the slick! We accept and thank you. https://youtu.be/j8RmXHEpqrc

After looking a while for a CT70 or the like, I remembered that canyoncarver picked up this funky looking green Suzuki ( a couple years ago now). It was a pretty complete bike as it sat, but had been wrecked pretty bad on the left side and had a couple holes in the left side crankcase half. I planned to just get it running and ride the crap out of it, but one thing led to another and I ended up with a full blown nut & bolt resto-mod. I asked canyoncarver about it, he said it was for sale, and I proceeded to fly out to New Mexico to pick her up.

Here's how it sat when CC picked it up.

We rented a car, disassembled most of the bulk off the bike at canyoncarver's place, and drove it back 800 miles to Houston.

Once back to the shop, I tore everything down to begin repairing anything bent or broken. I sourced a set of TS125 cases for super cheap on ebay, as the motors are exactly the same. New crank seals, oil seals, 1st over bore, piston and rings and some fresh paint on the motor.

I sent out the hardware to get plated, painted everything up, and drew up my own Suzuki and striping graphics for the plastics and had a local company that I use for graphics print them on vinyl.

It sat like this in the kitchen for the better part of the summer of 2017. I went over everything, grabbed some nice bars from irk at Mid-O, fork seals, painted up the shocks, etc. I slowly fixed/modded one thing at a time and bolted it back together.

I accidentally left the front wheel at Canyoncarver's place, and he brought it to Barber for me and I forgot it there too. No biggie as I had planned to swap it out. With some help from my uncle and his waterjet, Hurco with his big boy lathe to turn down the front hub, and Mr.E making some spacers, I was able to swap a donor rear wheel onto the front hub to get a better tire size on the front.

Once it was "finished" and I went to fire it up, I found out that the kickstarter pawl was buggered up and would only catch on about 25% of the kicks. So...pulled the motor again to change a $5 part out so I could kick it over. Its a great little 2/ and it absolutely kills it in the dirt and trails.
