    Feb 16, 2018, 12:43:19
  • Maritime: you're going to be close to Quebec City, old Quebec is pretty cool to see and walk around, but pricey to shop
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:45:49
  • Maritime: Really good food and beer there too
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:46:55
  • Maritime: there's a bakery in Qeubec City that is so good we ate there 4 times in 3 days
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:47:26
  • The Jimbonaut: Route 132 is a great road too, it follows the St Laurence river through some lovely countryside.  x2 on the old Quebec City recommendation - there's a bar there in a 400yr old cellar with an arched ceiling, like having a beer in an ancient metro tunnel.  Very cool and great beer
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:52:19
  • The Jimbonaut: You gonna be in Montreal too Hurco?
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:56:35
  • The Jimbonaut: Gimme a shout if you're in town and we'll have a beer and a smoked meat sandwich
    Feb 16, 2018, 12:57:14

  • Hurco550: cool cool. we are headed up for a vintage snowmoble get together up there. Dad and i are in a Boa Ski (thats a brand name) snowmible club, and this is the 50 year anniversary of the first production year. They were made in la guadoulope
    Feb 16, 2018, 13:50:49
  • Maritime: Cool. That sounds like fun
    Feb 16, 2018, 13:51:15
  • Hurco550: yep, always wanted to visit canadia mid feburary lol ;)
    Feb 16, 2018, 13:58:17
  • Maritime: That part won't be as cold as here, its will be like southern ME.
    Feb 16, 2018, 14:03:10
  • Maritime: Actually Sat may be cold but Sun should be pretty warm, it's going to be in the 50's here from Sun - Fri
    Feb 16, 2018, 14:04:13
  • Hurco550: hmmm didnt know it was going to be that warm actually lol were supposed to go on a 15km trail ride on the vintage sleds. dont think thatll happen if its 50 degrees
    Feb 16, 2018, 14:45:28
  • Hurco550: i know 15km doesnt sound like much, but its a good long shot on the old iron haha
    Feb 16, 2018, 14:45:54
  • Maritime: Ha yep, there should still be lots of snow as it's dipping to 2 deg overnight tonight and most of the day sat, not going up until sun afternoon
    Feb 16, 2018, 17:01:34
  • Hurco550: as long as it doenst end up that warm on the day of the ride we sould be good then. Last trip like that i went on we set out in the morning and it was around 20f. on the way back the temp shot up to around 40f, and resulted in the old wheelhorse snowmobile i was on melting a hole through the piston. They dont like warm weather
    Feb 16, 2018, 17:09:04
  • Jewbacca: Afternoon folks
    Feb 17, 2018, 16:23:42
  • Hurco550: Happy Monday y'all
  • SONIC.: Eh, if you say so
  • Hurco550: I'm off work today, so I do say so lol
    Today at 10:32:56
  • Maritime: Ha, fmaily day here but I got to work because we are federally regulated companuy and the holiday is provician'
  • Maritime: Provincial
  • Maritime: How'd the sled trip got Levi or is that next weekend?
  • The Jimbonaut: Top of the morning question time, torquing head bolts - Clymers says 48ft lbs but my Canadian Tire wrench starts at 50.  Think 50ft lbs will be ok, given that apparently these things can be a little inaccurate anyway?
  • SONIC.: As long as it's inaccurate on the low side :D
    Today at 10:56:10
  • Maritime: They are usually rated at +/- 4%, 2% etc. If it's 50 lbs +/- 4% it 48-52 ft lbs, not sure that will snap a bolt or not
    Today at 11:09:01
  • Maritime: if you set it a little below the 50 ft lb line you should be safe
    Today at 11:09:29
  • The Jimbonaut: ^^ I tried that yesterday Mike - set it a little below the 50 ft lb mark but when I didn't hear a click I got the fear and thought maybe torque wrenches don't like being backed off below their minimum setting
    Today at 11:11:18
  • The Jimbonaut: Think if I back it off 2 ft lbs from the 50 ft lb mark I should be ok?
  • SONIC.: It should still work, 50 ftlbs is way tighter than you think, I'm always thinking "this bitch is going to snap" all the way up to the click
    Today at 11:12:48
  • paddyshepherd: I would imagine you'd be fine - there will be a FoS on the torque settings anyway so I can't imagine there being an issue.
  • The Jimbonaut: No kidding - it was sweaty palm time while I was cranking on that thing and decided to back off until I'd consulted with you guys
    Today at 11:14:57
  • The Jimbonaut: By the way, what's an FoS?
  • Maritime: the only issue I can see is if you need to build the torque up. When I do the Yamaha heads I need to start at like 20 and then 30 and then the final 40 so there is like 6 nuts to do in sequence like that
    Today at 11:16:02
  • The Jimbonaut: Yeah man, in sequence and building the torque up incrementally
    Today at 11:17:17
  • Maritime: can't do that right if 48 is the final spec, fine if 48 is the start and you end at like 60 something, it all depends on the spec.  My GL heads are like 60ish ft lbs but the air cooled yamaha tops at 40 so I need the smaller wrench for those

  • paddyshepherd: FoS means Factor of Safety :)
  • Maritime: Jim if you want to wait, Jill's going over to Houlton today and could grab you this: [link]
  • Maritime: probably only cost 5 bucks to send it on the bus.
  • Maritime: That's 30 CAD vs CT price not on sale of well over 100
    Today at 11:23:14
  • The Jimbonaut: pm'd you Mike
  • The Jimbonaut: Factor of Safety, gotcha
