Been Around the Block
whats up guys... i was thinking. i really never been to a motorcycle only show. there is one in Long Beach california in July. I was planing on hoping to finish my bike and entering the show. win or loose. just fun to show the bike. but i was thinking do cafe racer bike builds get any love at those types of shows??

i dont know. like i said ive never been to an all motorcycle show. ive been to rod shows with bikes. but not a 100 percent bike show.

the show i was thinking about was July 18 and 19

heres the link if anybody is interested.

Holy shit, I thought I was on a porn site!!!!! Looks like a cool show to enter your bike.

Enter with pride knowing that few will give it a glance but those on the cutting edge will see the custom bike of the future. The fat tire chopper is good and dead and the proof is seen at the international mc show this year. It's no longer about how much money you can spend but how innovative young men turn junk into great locking hot rod bikes that are fast and reliable. Read the interview with Roland Sands in Bike magazine about his latest builds and know that you are among the first in your neighborhood to appreciate what bikes are really all about! ;D ;D ;D

Well, I didn't see a finished product in your link.

It takes a thick skin to enter any kind of show. If you have it, that go for it. It would be fun, as long as you don't take things seriously. If you play classical piano at a rock concert, 5 people will like it.

Personally, I got to the point where I don't trust people;
If they ldon't like it- they're stupid.
If they DO like it- they're stupid.

Get ready for this scene to be played out mulitple times:

A guy with a Triumph/Duc/Harley shirt and his friend. See your bike and smile. They get close enough to read the side cover and....

"...oh-it's a Honda."

The only time you will get pleasure from this is when they're with their girlfriend/wife/daughter/son who has no pre-conceived bullshit notion about what's cool is with them
and says, "Well, I think it's pretty cool." ;D

They will then get on their bagger/nightster Harley and go be "hardcore" with their friends. At least crotch rockets have the balls to put their bike's performance where their mouths are. Give me a drag race/ road course anyday over show.

I just checked the link-that one looks pretty safe in that they seem to have pretty wide representation and include sport bikes.

So you're bike isn't finished yet? I say go for it - it'll give you a deadline. I am rubbish without deadlines...

Like the guys said, you'll probably get a 80% of the people ignoring it, 15% snubbing it and 5% loving it, but that 5% might have really good info (and you might make some friends).

It's funny, motorcycle culture is an interesting thing - from the outside it seems like the subcultures are pretty homogeneous; sport bikes, harley's, and rockers, but from the inside you can see it's incredibly diverse and varied, and there's the whole gamut of people, from total douchebaggery to super cool and nice, no matter what kind of bike you've got.

What bike are you working on? Let's see it!

I really don't want cafe racers to ever get hugely popular. because as soon as they do, the "scene" (i hate that word) will get flooded by people half-assing bike builds (i mean, look at how many people half-ass it now) and driving up the costs of bikes.

Sadly, they are the "next big thing". Right now, everybody is in love with "bobbers". I like a "bobber" as much the next guy.

Stripped down V-twin bikes are cool, also. :D

yeah not done with my bike. I think its getting close to being done. but like some of you said, this will give me a deadline to help me push forward (not half assing) my bike build. I was looking at shows near my house to find a deadline show I can aim for.

yeah, im not too sensitive about my builds. Ive built a ton of cars, (american/import/british) so im use to the comments good or bad. so i dont think ill have a problem.

but yeah, im just looking for some type of deadline to aim for. and thought this show might be good.

as for my bike, im in mid motor building. all motor parts has been ordered, cleaned, and polished (i hope) and the motor should be coming together very soon. and after that Im hoping the bike will start to come together fast.

thanks again for all the replies

Vintage 'cafe racer' fashion would dictate that shows should not be what the bikes are about......maybe? It is nice to show off hard work, however. i am torn

you mean like this?:

Are these people really that afraid to go over 40mph that they'd dump tons of money on a moped made to look like a cafe bike? It's a hood scoop on a Hyundai, non? Although, I must admit, I'm jealous of how Kate Moss skinny that sucker is-caferoexia IS in.

I think the fuel line hanging down is begging to be boxcut- seems like it would've been cleaner to run it down the frame. and check the pegs- gotta be uncomfortable.

I'm in SoCal too so I might enter next year.

I checked out that site and I saw more girls than motorcycle. Jeez. I think the pictures where the girls have pants half down their legs is HILARIOUS!
