Like this. Sorry for the poor quality.

Ah , that looks neat Alan , might have to re think using the original speedo now , I was going to try and use the original "idiot light" binnacle mounted ahead of the two clocks , will see how it looks/works .
Been tied up with other stuff today so have just removed the "125" stickers of off the sidepanels so far !

Sidepanels were well stuck to the rubber grommets and was scared they were going to break the lugs - going to get the silicon grease on them .

Im planning removing the OEM light & bracket & replacing with a (possibly) 7" sidemounted unit with 35w H4 HID conversion.

Also plan on moving the ignition switch down to a panel/plate where the EGR kit normally sits.

Those 2 together should allow me to drop the Acewell right down

Indeed. I have a 8" side mounted light and even if i installed it quite low it didn't bring so much space. Mainly the speedo cable interferes.

I removed stickers and side panels altogether !

And remove any other branding while at it:

Actually the Acewell isnt that big, Its just the way I currently have it mounted.

This probably gives you a better idea

Don't have to worry about the speedo cable as its now a wire running up from the speedo drive :)

Bah - you are a lot of steps ahead Alan ! :D Looks very tidy , I was going to be removing the engine branding but as its only hours old cannot bring myself to do it yet ! Tank decal is coming off to be replaced by a HM Winged one . Mine does seem to be a late 2012 build with the steel indicators and all alloy master cylinder , cannot see any other changes .

I was having an interesting discussion around replacing the OEM logos with the HM winged ones with my local spanner man and have to say I'm in agreement with him.

The Ace is a cracking looking bike and whilst she's a copy/replica/homage, she's good enough to stand up in her own right and be proud of what she is :)

After all the anoraks will only pick holes lol

Looking good Alan, reminds me though I really need to rewqork how my Acewell is mounted as its a tadge high for my liking. I have a cunning plan in my head 8)

That looks very good. Thanks Alan.

I agree to a large extent - I didnt want Honda wings but thought the HM version a bit more subtle :)

I did not like the big 125 stickers and would have preferred "Ace" there - might go with Ace cafe stickers I already have on the sidepanels .

All this before I have even ridden it !

Aye the 125 came straight off !!

What are the differences between 2012 and 2013, I want to make sure that I do not get palmed off with old stock.

Oops, sorry. I'd like to see some modified UK bikes to give me some ideas.

If you're ever 'oop North you're more than welcome to stop off (I'm in Warrington although I may be down in Aylesbury with her end of the month) 8)

Thanks Mikey. I am still waiting for my local dealer to let me know when they get one in. I did go and look at one last Friday but i'd prefer to deal with the nearest dealer. I will probably wait and get a 14 plate in March as I will not get much use out of it over the winter. I'm having shoulder issues at the moment so that is also stopping rushing out to get one now. Even the wife approves ;D

I used to have a 600 when I was 21 but sold that to put a deposit down on a flat with the Mrs, I have not owned my own bike since. When I started looking at what to get I originally was looking at getting a scooter just for fun, then I typed cafe racer in Ebay and it led me to the Ace. It will be perfect for my short commute to work.

My advice FWIW is don't worry about using a local dealer as by the time you've done a few mods your warranty will be technically invalid anyways. Just find one for the best price including delivery you can (I used shiply (http://www.shiply.com/) cost me £85 for the 160 miles from Aylesbury to Warrington) and If you're not a spannerman yourself just find a good local family run garage.

The Ace is a nice simple solid bike and parts etc are readily available from either Skyteam direct (www.skyteamparts.com) or OO Racing (www.ooracing.com)

Hi Mike,

I was a Land Rover mechanic up until 5 years ago. I now work as an aircraft repair technician, so modifying should not be a problem, although I have never worked on bikes. That is why the information that you, Stroker Crazy, sprocket2cog, jarradschmarrad and CaffEnthusiast have posted makes the idea all the more possible. The local dealer told me he had sold 5 bikes and that only 2 of them had been delivered locally. One of them was shipped to Scotland and the dealer is on the south coast.

Ahh a rigger.

You can use slightly smaller hammers on the Ace than on the Landys & whatever aircraft you're working on :p

The aircraft work I do is bench work, I repair fuel system components. I left Land Rover due to having problems with my hands/arms. The bench work is a lot lighter. Thats the reason I want a small light bike like the Ace. I borrowed my Dads Kawasaki GPX600R a few weeks ago which is the same bike that I had 19 years ago and I found it very heavy, I'm clearly not as strong as I was all them years ago. I am still having issues with my arms so waiting until March will not be a bad thing as I am seeing a specialist in a few weeks, plus having a 14 plate when they come out will put a big grin on my face. After reading all the threads about the ace I think the cheap bike I was looking for will not be so cheap in the end. Thanks to all the goodies that are available at OORacing. I will probably go for the ape bars as I don't want to lean forward too much, has anybody else fitted these?

The bits I mentioned are the ones I knew of , master cylinder is all black alloy on the later ones , the indicators are chromed steel not plastic (though this seems to vary ?) , later footrests are black not alloy finish not aware of any others . Nothing significant either way , could also check the date codes on the tyres - mine are week 50 of 2012 .

I just went for what appeared to be the best deal I could get - turned out to be 200 miles away but even after delivery charges it was several hundred less than some are asking .

It is quite an upright riding position with the standard bars , I think you would have a lot of work to do with wiring/control cables etc if you wanted higher bars .

Had the tank etc off mine tonight and am quite happy with the quality (for the price!) - a couple of connections not pushed together but otherwise build quality not bad .

Did notiice my inlet manifold is (was!) held on with security bolts - anti tampering ?
