Re: "Woody" a '75 cb750k cafe racer
Okay I'll spill the beans on the paint now that I have something to show... Y'all have probably been wondering why I chose "woody" as the nickname for this bike, well the paint should help explain that
Where I left off I was just about to shoot the base. Put down a nice copper base
Next I needed to make a dividing line between the two sides of the tank. I would have preferred not to, but to avoid distortion of the dip I needed to.
After that I dipped the first side, came out decent enough that I didn't want to redo it.
After i rinsed off the side of the tank and let it dry I dipped the tail. Since it was a smaller part I was able to dip it all in one go.
Then I got to the other side, came out better than the first. There were a few areas that I needed to touch up but not a big deal.
Touched everything up and put the seat and tank next to eachother to see how it was going to look
Before I got to the graphics I needed to clear everything as I was afraid to do any sort of masking directly on top of the dip. Put down 3 coats.
While I waited for the clear to cure a few days I had a friend cut some stencils to do the HONDA logos on the sides
Then I sanded the clear down with 1000 in preparation for the graphics
Shot the black and unmasked it
Today I was finally able to clear it. Put down 5 coats and I will wait a few days and then sand and buff it. There are two gnats in it but they should come right out.
