I dont 'get' the point of staking bearing retainers

the retainers are torqued into place and then have torqued pressure from a spacer in the tightened axle...how does staking help
 
It stops the retaining ring from unscrewing itself. Torquing it applies teh correct ned loading, but I would guess that Honda decided that was not enough to stop them from coming loose.
 
Because Honda designed a stupid hub with only one seat for the bearing on one side of it.
 
I doubt it needs quite the aggresive staking that I've run into on Hondas. But, luckily it drills out easy.
