Yamaha TW200.. the swamp donkey

Just gotta WOT through the mud. I made that mistake on the Van Van and got stuck in some 12" deep sludge ;D

The big tires should float over a lot of mud instead of digging in, especially on a lighter machine

The bigger the tire, the bigger the contact patch, the more mud to move when you need to turn.

As was mentioned the bike is fairly light, and if he was able to manage his dr in the mud, the TW will be no sweat.

How well he managed his DR in the mud is up for debate. LOL

It made it though, I have a mutton chipped witness. I know he's a bit shady, but he's a witness none the less lol

Haha you don't want no schooling from me. I'm just still young enough to be stupid and reckless. "To be old and wise, you must first be young and dumb"

Well now that there's 4 pictures in a row of a fat dude mud running a dr650 on a tw200 thread, I digress lol

A fairly common carb swap for the tw200's is to use a Chinese mikuni clone carb for a bw200. The early tw200 carbs are known to be fiddly and prone to angst, so I figured for $18 shipped to my door, why not. There are a few fitment issues at the outlet of the carb, in that it is to long to seat into the ridge that's cast into the intake boot. Many that do the swap just run it with the carb not completely seated and hose clamp it tightly, but I figured why not just hacksaw and file it shorter so that it fits like it "should". Even if it's just an $18 mikuni clone, it still feels weird taking a hacksaw to a brand new carb, but it fits a treat now. Ill likely have to turn an adapter to make it fit the stock airbox boot, but even that could likely be fudged a bit since I have to make new mounts for it anyways.

I'm thinking these could take a rear wheel (maybe on the front too) like I have on the back of my Tri-Rod. Not saying you should do it to this one, but it sure does having me thinking about the future.

I was even thinking about running a stock bw200 front wheel out back. It would be nice having an aluminum rim, but the only thing is they (as well as the atc rims) are 11" diameter vs the 12" diameter trailer wheel. I don't much care that the rim would be smaller, BUT the outside diameter tires available for 11" rims are smaller than what you can get for 12" rims.

So I may have to resend my previous statement about bw200 front wheels being 11-inch and thus taking them out of the running to use out back on the tw200. Through a little bit more research I found that they actually are 12 inch wheels which opens up many more Tire options in the desirable o.d. sizes , including the tire that I already have. It really may work out pretty awesome, since now I will have a lighter aluminum rim instead of a welded up trailer wheel. I made a deal with a guy on a bw200 Facebook page for this rim for $50 plus shipping. The bonus is that it will be a gold rim. Looks like I'll have to figure out how to paint the front one to match, because we all know that it would be irresponsible to not have gold wheels front and back when that is a possibility LOL the only thing that I am slightly concerned about is the fact that the bw rim is 6" wide as opposed to the stock tw rim at 4.5" wide, but it appears that there is plenty of clearance between the chain and tire to suit still.

Also, nothing to exciting, but i have a few oem parts showing up. Sonreir is also helping me draw up a simplified wiring diagram. I SHOULD be getting close to firing this thing up before terribly long.

TREK97 stopped over yesterday to collect a few cb400f parts that I picked up for him locally a while back, and surprised me with the PERFECT muffler for this project. Its a freshly rebuilt vintage super trapp. I was given explicit instructions that it goes back to him if I ever sell this little booger ;) you know me all to well deeds! Ill likely figure out a little better mounting position, then it's on to making a mid pipe to fit the xt225 stainless head pipe. Thanks again Eric!!

The bw200 rim came in the mail today, and while I knew it was wider than stock, I hadn't envisioned how much wider in my head. (Stock is 4.5" wide and the bw200 is 6" wide). No big deal though, there seems to be plenty of clearance still. Wheel has a bit of a wobble/ shimmy that I may have to get creative about straightening out. The tire spooned on easy enough again and popped on the bead pretty easily as well. All in all I'm happy with it, and I'm glad that I now have a much lighter aluminum hoop than the steel trailer one that I was originally planning on using. Plus, gold wheel ftw.

It was time to clean out the garage, which also made for a good opportunity to roll the tw200 scrapheap project outside for a few progress pictures without my messy shop in the background. We are getting close. There may be snow on the ground when I get around to the first test ride, but still getting close none the less.
