Suzuki GT185 forks

Been Around the Block
I'm working on a GT 185 cafe project and I'm looking for help to improve the fork action and damping without spending a fortune. I have stripped the forks down, replaced seals and oil. They move freely and work ok, but I'm hoping for some improvement. The chrome on the tubes is good on the sliding surfaces, rusty between the triple clamps. They are a very basic fork but I have no experience with them. Local suspension tuners have quoted big dollars to sort them out.
Any ideas?

I had a GT185 in 1984 so this from memory, as standard they were a bit soft for me when I weighed 10 stone (140lbs) but usual solutions should work, thicker oil and stronger springs

Thanks for the suggestions. Will most likely need heavier springs. It's more the action of the forks and the damping I'm concerned about. Im thinking about a fork brace and trying different oil weights and levels. The owners manual specifies 130ml per leg, such a small amount compared to today's forks!
