the Black Knight, a 400four tale.

Re: Black Knight, Not a speck of dust.

Hey Brodie I did some looking for my tap handles. Cause they make cheap copies that look the same.

Mine are Schroder 40070, made in Germany.
https://www.amazon.com/Schroder-4-007-0-Ratcheting-2-Inch-16-Inch/dp/B001DZC9YG/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=hi&ie=UTF8&qid=1540136845&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=Schroder+40070

they also make a smaller size/. But I lost mine years ago.

Re: Black Knight, FREE Yule log video

As per the workshop manual, I pulled the head cover and head

So Nice the head gasket came off in one clean piece. 8)

The jugs were stuck fast.

Kanticoy offered up a neat trick.

W center pistons at BDC pour an inch of alcohol and light them a blaze, as soon as it burns out. Give them a good smack.

For DOUBLE BONUS POINTS I also made a Christmas morning Yule Log video! ;D

And it worked like a charm. :)

The kids called and invited us out to lunch, then a visit to the Reindeer Ranch and Maze.

It was a fun time.

Thanks for the link. I am going to have to get some.

Nothing quite like setting your bike alight to relieve tension!

I was getting pretty frustrated pounding on it w the 2 lb ball peen.

Then YES I lit it up and it popped free w just 4 good taps.

I laughed and felt much better.

Re: Black Knight, FREE Yule log video

Just getting the garage tidied up and buttoning up a few odds and ends before I get too serious about the big job.

O-rings for the front brake pivot cam in...

So got it together and back in the box until Im ready for it.

Thank goodness...this plastigauge was terrifying for me.

I had Rachel check all of them. Best eyes. ;)

found they're all between .038-.051 so within the big end of Factory Assembly Standard .018-.048

But well within the Service limit .08

During the teardown I found a bunch more O-rings.

So, I went through the parts fiche and between Honda-4into1-amazon-ebay

I am confident they are ALL en route now.

Next time, go here:

https://www.theoringstore.com/

May be a bit more work getting the measurements, but you can get extras and its way cheaper than buying them from part sources and fast shipping.

Thanks bud, added them to bookmarks. I just really prefer to use the OEM stuff when I can get it and afford it.

Its just a kooky personal "thing" I have. ;)

Re: Black Knight, Novice Engine building

Well, I never claimed to be a crosshatch expert. LOL.

It looks funny in the pic and may be steep but its there.

4 of the cutest little pistons you ever did see. New rings and waiting for assembly.

Re: Black Knight, Novice Engine building

Looks good mate. You should clean up the cast marks in the ports while you have the head off.

Re: Black Knight, Novice Engine building

Not 100% sure what you mean. but if its it this. Theres not a lot of ugly stuff in there.

Re: Black Knight, Novice Engine building

That's the one. Most people just clean up the ridge at the bottom of the picture. Helps with gas flow. I am by no means anywhere near knowledgeable on the topic.
I know there are minor improvements to be had by getting rid of rough spots and that super smooth is bad for intakes due to fuel pooling.

Re: Black Knight, Novice Engine building

Yup get rid of that big rough line. I did the entire thing on my 350.

Re: Black Knight, Race Bike!

I would match the port to the intake boot while you are that far Ino it. I would do valve seals too.
