1982 CB750F Super Sport - (no longer a Brat Project)

Last night I got the cams back in the engine, got the timing set correctly, and checked and adjusted the valves as needed. I had already calculated and dropped in the new shims before installing the cams, but I must have messed up on a few because I had to adjust 6 of them post install of the cams. But, I was able to get all intakes to .005, and one exhaust at .006 and rest of the exhaust to .007 using the shims I had on hand.

Should be able to wrap things up and get the bike started this weekend, if not tonight.

She is alive! Got everything back together this morning, and the bike fired right up. Runs and sounds good. Still haven't taken it for a ride as it is pretty cold, damp, and windy today. Hopefully tomorrow will be better conditions.

Here is a quick video of it running. Nothing special, just a little proof of life.

Paint turned out great and looks even better now that the bike is back together. Ignore the condition of the exhaust. I should have cleaned it up while off the bike, but I plan on getting a new exhaust soon.

An option to "save" the exhaust would be to have it ceramic coated either "near chrome" or black. Either would suit that fine looking ride.

Great job.

Right now I'm cleaning it up. Using some 00 steel wool and some Mother's polish. It is doing wonders to improve them, but they will never be like new again I'm afraid.

I may have found a great "beater" for my brat project. Waiting to hear from the seller. If it pans out, I'll post up the details.

I went round and round on my Triumph with steel wool, polishes, vapor blasting and finally had the head pipes ceramic coated in "near chrome". Never had to worry about discoloration again.

Good luck with the beater.

I'm sure I speak for most on here by stating the advice on here and your decision to not chop this beauty up is confirmed by the terrific result and beautiful bike you now own, nice one.

After seeing yours, I figure I should buy this.

Hey, you are clouding up my thread with pics of other bikes... No fair.

I already posted this in another forum reference this particular bike for sale. I don't know about that one, it is missing the airbox cover... Could mean anything.

The beater I'm talking about is a real, real beater. Might even be a money pit. Need more info before I'll know for sure.

Really nice! I'll hop on the band wagon here and add my appreciation for bringing what was already a pretty decent old bike back to beautiful. For the record, most of my own projects get so comprehensively altered that even the manufacturer can't be divined, but there is a lot of value in keeping alive and beautiful the not so far gone. Got some of those too. Nicely done! Looking forward to seeing what you can do with a train wreck.

Here is a quick comparison of the pexhaust headers after cleaning with steel wool and polish. Could be better with a little more time and effort.

The header on the right in the pic was just cleaned and the rest are as is before.

Crap. Stupid phone rotated the pic.
