1974 Yamaha TX-500.....Rebuild time!!

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

I really like the green against the all blacked out bike- very minimalistic. No beef on "kawi green" either. It's all good, and this is really good.
Having owned a TX back in the day I already have a soft spot for them. I personally really like the stock tank in that purplish blue with the white yamaha logo. But I'm not riding it, am I?

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Well, let me get your thoughts on this:

I am thinking of putting the white Yamaha tank logo in the same spot on this tank. I am 50/50 on doing it right now.

Thoughts?

Use the Logo, not the name... http://visualdesignhva.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/yamaha_logo.jpg

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Also got some random ride shots in today. I am really stoked on this bike. I don't know what it is but I have restored a 76 cb360, 73 cl350 and this bike is just the shit. I love Hondas and plan on doing another one up but I think I have become a Yamaha guy.

She's a beauty for sure!
I'm in the same boat man, after 4 hondas I'm building a yamaha and loving it so far.

Re: 1974 Yamaha TX-500

Thanks Sonicjk. That Sr500 is going to look sweet!

Aprilabill- I like it. I didn't even think about that yet.

Scott- It seems there are a lot of people who are not big on green bikes. Honestly, I hate green Kawi Ninjas, but have had an itch for a green tank as well as an orange tank. But since I work at a prison and the inmates wear orange........I would get flamed by my coworkers. ;D

And I thought they said that orange is the new black......

I don't know if it's been brought up yet, and I don't know how far it goes back and what it's connected to, but it was legend green bikes were bad luck. At that (early 60's when I started hearing this) time about the only bikes green were Triumph's, so I don't know if that's where it started. Or maybe there is a correlation with some early race bikes being green????

I have heard that before. The thing is.....I don't believe in things like that. Color, what a person says, walking under a ladder, black cat yada, yada yada. Does not affect my decision making. But yeah. I have heard green bikes are bad luck. Maybe that's why there are so many Kawasaki Ninjas for sale on Craigslist? ;D

So yeah....maybe Green wasn't the way to go.....
