carbs didn't look very good

home made soda blaster worked wonders. Cost under $10 in parts and I used old baking soda from the fridge.

I spent for ever going back a forth over what tires to run. I liked the look of the stock rear, wanted something a little wider and vintage looking, not a new radial. But I also didn't want it to look like a brat style bike or not be able to take a turn.

here is the stock tire.

and what I went with

nice work man.

I like the tires. they're modern-ish tread but the width keeps it vintage.

Whats your soda blaster setup look like? I tried making one and it was a complete abortion.

Wow! What a difference. They look brand new.

Great work so far.

I wanted to build my own seat. I have worked with fiberglass a little working on race bike fairings. I also have the advantage of working for a company that builds large fiberglass fans.

My first try - I kinda like it and kinda don't.

I also grabbed the drum front wheel and pipes from the CL and put them on the CB.

I tried another design, something different.

It only cost me $20 for the foam and it was enough to do a bunch of designs. Good thing since it is hard to get them symmetrical.

Going more traditional cafe.

couple layers of glass and topped with some carbon fiber that I had laying around from an old project.

The carbon has some silver in it, but it didn't look as good in person as I thought it would.

Looks good in the picture. If your not going to paint it and go for that carbon-fiber look. Perhaps some more wet sanding rough to fine then then use aqua-buff until it's smooth as silk. The carbon-fiber matt you used should look pretty awesome through the clear resin. Great job on the seat so far. (like you, I also work in a large fiberglass shop but as a millwright.)

have to say LOVE the idea of the carbon fiber wrap on the seat! if you have a min to do a write up that would be great! good looking scoot man!

Yo dude your Engine is insane looking!!!, Tell me about the velocity stacks, where did you get them, and how many jet sizes did you jump on running those??

I will have to find where I got the stacks from. They were under $30 for the pair and are meant for a aircooled VW car motor.

The shocks are el-cheap-o ebay specials. I don't want to drop a lot of money on the shocks until I get the bike done and know that I am going to like riding it as much as I like building it.

I need help - I got these headlight mounts but they push the headlight out too far. I can't find any that keep it in closer that I like or that don't cost a mint.

Here are some more random pics from last night:

the center stand is just temp - that is why it is not cleaned up.

IMG00423-20110922-2034.jpg

here is my speedo face I had made from a guy on this site - the blue light is a LED that I had left over from another project. I am using it for a neutral light. I still need to polish the top triple clamp.

one quick thing man. when powdering swingarms be sure you remove those bushings in the swing arm... the heat just ruins them... they look fine but break down shortly after riding... you can press them out with some sockets in no time

I've got a set of Cerani headlight ears just like those but half the length.
I'll trade you....just gotta dig'm up.
PM if you're interested...

It looks so small!

This is an issue - the kickstart lever clears the rearsets fine, but then it gets stuck under them. Am I missing something simple here?

Look at the battery, don't look at my feet.

and for the love of god get some powder on that center stand! :) loving the build man

the center stand isn't staying. I just put it on to make it easier to work on. The tires are so much taller that with the center stand down both front and rear are hitting the ground. That is with the shocks at stock length and the forks dropped way to much in the triple tree.

ahh sorry man! i though i read your frame was powdered so i figured the same on your swing arm... on your kick starter you thought of cutting it and just shorten it up
