New-ish member ScotchEgg has created a bit of a back and forth due to his name, and apparently how delicious his namesake food is. That got me thinking a bit. What's the local to you food that out of towners probably wouldn't know? Good bad or otherwise?
Being from the Pittsburgh area a lot of our local delicacies are a mix of Irish, Polish, and German foods. Pirogies, halushki, the well known Shepards Pie, sausages of all kinds, etc.
There's also scrapple, the PA Dutch food. Kind of a pork bread mix. Hearty farmers food.
Though obviously not technically Pittsburgh at the core, we here have an odd (to some) habit of adding french fries to the top of our steak salads and between the bread of our sandwiches. Google Primanti Bros, though they have satellite restaurants all over now so some of you may know the deal.
And of course there's Iron City beer and Pelinkovac. Pittsburgh staples.
So, what's on the menu in your town?
