XL250 Project Lowbuck

AzHonda

Coast to Coast
Since I picked this bike up for $100, I am going to TRY to keep the build on the low side of things.....price wise. I spent alot of money on my CB360 build doing Powder coat, rechroming and stuff.

I don't know how fast this build is going to go but I think I have enough motivation to get this going.

So here's the details so far:

73 XL250.

The previous owner sprayed bedliner all over the tank and front end. ???

Pulled engine and tore it down (split the case) and replaced all gaskets. I have never torn a engine down before and I thought this would be the one to get my hands dirty on. So, if I ended up screwing something up. I will just pull it out and redo it again.
Painted engine in a flat black. Side covers are actually primer and then I shot them with clearcoat.

Had the frame and swing arm media blasted and painted it all in a stainless steel appliance epoxy.

Haven't decided on a color for the tank yet. In the process of getting it all sanded down.

Wheels will probably be in a semigloss black, new SS spokes, matching hubs

I am wanting to put a CB wheel on the front so I need to figure out what triple tree will work.

Most likely I will be going with Shinko SR241 tires if I stay with the origional front end.

Made a new kickstand out of the old one and a CB360. I didn't like the lenght of the stock one so I extended it by two inches and welded on the end from the 360. I am hoping this works well because I didn't have a chance to test it before I tore the bike down. All I knew is I hated how far over the bike leaned.

Frame color is hard to see from the pics. Kinda like your stainless steel appliances. It does have a slight goldish hue, not what I intended but kinda like it now. Reminds me of bad varnish.

I like the gray and black together..I'm working on an xl350 now, so I'm gonna keep a close eye on this build

Today I removed the spokes and prepped the rims for paint. They turned out nice. Still need to blast the hubs and a box full of other parts.

Rattle caning this one. Hence the name "Lowbuck". 8)

I used semigloss black appliance epoxy spray paint.

Tank is done. It is not perfect by no means, but looks better than how it came on the bike with bedliner on it. Worked my butt off getting it to the point it is at.

Color is VHT Burnt Copper with 3 to 4 coats of clear.

Blasted and painted triple tree and installed new tapered stem bearings from All Balls. I may be able to put a front drum wheel off of a CB350 on this bike? The diameter of the axle on the 350 wheel is the same as the 250. I am really hopeing it works out this simple. We'll see..............

By the way, the risers are not painted, they are raw. Just wired wheeled them.

Thanks for the compliments.

Things are starting to come together. I had anew pair of shocks I was going to use on another build but never ended up using so they went on this one.

Painted the front forks in the same black as what is on the engine. I am just waiting for the new fork seals to arrive and then they will be on. I had to get another set off of Ebay because the previous owner(s) really marred one of the lowers (probably trying to get the seal out) and the uppers were pitted really bad.

Was able to get the engine in. Still need to completly bolt it down and i also have one bolt giving me a hard time on one of the rear shocks.

I painted the tank a burnt copper and that is going to change. Going to sand it off and paint it in a chocolate brown. Just ended up not liking the color of the tank with the frame.

I have posted a "before" pic just so you could get a refresher of what a craphole this thing looked like.
