Its taken me 3 days so far

Yep, I know exactly what you went through, even when the rims look good it seems to take 'forever' to get them nice

we went over to the saddle maker yesterday and he called me today to tell that the seat is ready.
I was really suprisd that he did it so quickly. It looks great and the price was pretty good as well.
really nice guy, He seemed interested in the bike and asked me to send a pic when I was done. (note to self)

Re: 74 XS650 adventure brat-racer

Cleaned up the engine one more time and put it back in the frame. its so much easier on motorcycles! Im really starting to like working on this bike.
Guess the its becous most of the boring things are done.

with the handlebars on I could test the mirrors.
we where surprised by how good the view was, could only see my own arm on the old ones but with them under the handlebar and the curved mirrors its really good

Re: 74 XS650 adventure brat-racer

Not sure how I missed this build over the last couple of months! Awesome project - I'm an XS fan myself. And anyone who makes their own clipons is aces in my book.

Re: 74 XS650 adventure brat-racer

Thanks man, Made them with stainless steel. Looks better than chromed Imo. and now I know there solid

Re: 74 XS650 adventure brat-racer

And till just now I never realized YAMAHA was completely legible backwards as AHAMAY.

Which explains Neal from Bamas screen name...

Hiding away things under the right sidecover. I'm planing on having a tool kit on the left side.

my to do list is getting really short! but still a few things to fabricate.
its been snowing here so I'm taking it slow, now the bike is ready to start at least, Just needs some fuel and I'm fairly certain it would run

Nice work... I'm catching up on all the XS650 info I can... I just scored one in boxes with a shitload of killer parts for a few hundred and a paint job. I need to go pick it up in the next weeks... it's been through a couple of buddies by now but started as a mint condition donor. Not sure if it's going to be a café or a brat until I get a good inventory of parts and figure out what has been done so far.

Just stumbled across this and went through the entire build so far. Great job man! Your doing a fantastic job while keeping the costs down. I have a lot of respect for people who can turn out something like this without having to pay someone else to build you a "Trailer Queen". This has inspired me to get back at my own build; winter has a way of slowing things down...

Yea:) This is no trailer queen thats for sure

Polished up the rocker covers. desided not to make it to shiny to keep the bike looking more rough

lights still need some washers and there are a few more touches to be done, but this is more or less what it'll look like

and finally a video of the bike!
Had to figure out the right combination of gass and choke, but then it started up at once
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upFWUsVe4ic

I think it ran suprisingly well considering Ive done nothing to the carburetors and the timing was just put on without any adjustment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYD-nNWRSpE

sounds a bit flat in the video, But its great in real life
Might have to silence it a little, but its not as bad as it was
