next question: how can i shorten my front forks? i need about 3 inches to disappear. can i cut something or do they sell aftermarket tubes?

I'd be concerned with changing the steering geometry that much. Please be very very careful.

Do it this way:

At least it's reversible in case you don't like it. If you don't have a spacer up top, then cut a few coils out of the spring.

why not try flipping your top tree and droppin the forks that way. then it's easily reversible and that will tell you if your going to have handling problems
