This is my first build other than a 1972 CT70 but I picked up a CB550F a few weeks ago. I was already cafe'd but I plan to modify it to my preferences. The bike already had the Keihin carbs, some engine work, Dyna S ignition. I plan to modify the frame with a hoop, battery tray and remove the the side panel and foot peg mounts. Space for me is limited so I will have out source the work (grinding/Welding) on the frame. The parts I will be adding are as follows:
dual caliper forks front end
rearsets
New tank and cafe seat
move battery and electronics behind the seat
fork springs progressive and new seals
head bearings
grips
K&N pod air filters
Jardine chrome 4-2 exhaust
Acewell 2803 gauge
wheel bearings
Billet triple clamp
braided lines
Regulator/Rectifier
bronze swing arm bushing
sprockets/chain
Dyna coils and wires
Rebuild calipers
"I have all winter so no rush on my part"
seems i need twice as much time in the winter to do the same amount of work due to the motivation factor......... which is ,my ole body being too cold ! ha

^^ I hear you. I am in a rental place for the time being and the garage is far from insulated, with one outlet and just enough room for me to get around the bike and work on it.
Hey Tobi, the tank and side covers were wrapped in carbon fiber and than painted. I does look unique but I am going to remove the side covers all together and use another tank for the build.

Hey, thats the bike from Toronto Kijiji. I saw it at the shop last summer.
It has been a while but I figured I should post some updates. Below is picture of what my bike looks like now. These are the change I made this summer and plans over the winter:
Replaced the generic rear sets with Tarozzi rearsets
Did a CB650 cam swap and replaced the 4-2 Jardine with a Mac 4-1 with cone engineering muffler. This really helped out the CR29 carb.
Upgraded the rear shocks to 13.39" Ikons which has made a huge improvement with steering
Over the next while I will:
- replaced the bucket with a new chrome bucket and H4 conversion.
- add a steering damper
- replace fork internals with Race Tech spring and valves
- Dynoman 592cc pistons
- head port, polish and valve job
- Pirelli Sport Demon tires
- add Aluminum Oval Bar End Mirrors
- add a clear points cover
