SD-I started as a kid; my Mom, her brother, Dad, and uncles were all artists (although only my Mom ever tried to do anything with it. I'm influenced by everyone from The Pre-Raphaelites, Art Noveau, The Wyeth family, Dutch Masters, and Japanese woodblock printers to Frank Kozik. tattoos, graphitti, and other low-brow stuff. The most training I had was in highschool, but I chose acting over art in college. Althought I love both, it's easier to create an audience with graphic art; I guess I could perform monologues or improv on the street, but painting and drawing requires less prep time! ;D
