1977 BMW R100/7 Sarcoplasmic Cow Hellride

Re: 1977 BMW R100/7 Miles Von Muncher Hellride

Got the DB Electric starter in and installed. If the eBay jawn is Valeo, and I think it is, I may swap them out.a cool thing about the DB is that it's about 4lbs lighter. The motor and relay is smaller. The mounting base is doubly thick, and I wanted to keep the stock hardware with the grooved bolt and wire retainer for the flywheel cover. So I drilled out the threaded holes, and countersunk the Allen heads.

In order to utilize stock signals on a USD front end, I had to alter the stems. I opened up the fork holes with a hole saw. Then I flattened the ring and formed the edge to fit the VZ lower triple...

By flattening them out, you have removed some of the structural strength. They may tend to sag a bit over time. But you can cross that bridge later. If it ever comes to it.

They won't sag. Plus they wrap around the edge of the triple, like I mentioned.

I have heard that before... hmm.

Bolt ons don't sag they droop and stand firm, stockers sag and eventually can be tucked in jeans to keep from flapping in the wind on rides

After spending way too much time building a harness with all stock relays...

... it was becoming a clusterfuck of knotted up spaghetti. So, I stripped it all back down to start over from here...

I'm running a Thunderchild diode board, so mine will be slightly different, but essentially it's the same but for location of a couple of connectors. Here's an example of one of many relays (starter relay) I have removed...

There's a redundancy in these things beyond reason. The electronics are an Achilles heal on these BMWs, so simple we will go.

I'm thinking "Thunderchild" is gonna stick somehow.

It's getting so close. Just a small bit of wiring to sort out for ignition. The front brake lines need routed, then it goes to paint.
