77 Honda CB592CR

Re: 77 Honda CB550SS

Ok!

I found a 592 kit(Henry Abe), with cylinders..... But the cylinder block was from a CB500!
The cylinder walls are pretty thin, and the OD of the sleeve is thinner than The CB550's. Was the sleeves in the H.A. kit of a smaller diameter than the standard 550? Or is this a case of overbored 500 standard cylinders?

The CB500 sleeves OD. Is this to thin or is this the sleeves from the H.A. Kit and ok?

Hope someone can help me? Thanks!

Re: 77 Honda CB550SS

I am starting to dial in the carbs, and I feel I am getting closer...

This is what I got so far:

-592ccm
-650 cam
-matched intake/mild porting of head
-power arc ignition
-velocity stacks steel dragon
-yoshi replica carpy
-keihin 069A
-needle at nr 2 original position
-slow jet 40
-main jet 115
-float hight stock
-IMS 1,5 turn out

I will do some more testing with this setup today and see how it works!

Now I have set the needles at top notch, float hight is set at 23mm, slow jet is back to 38 and main jet is 125.
This setup is working great with no studder and smooth accelleration from idle to top.
Very strange about the needle position and slow jet, I think! Maybe the needles and emultion tubes are worn out...?

On the freeway I always try to reach an imaginary 6th gear.......Sure wish I had 6 gears! ;D

Synching.....

Out to test the latest setup...

Now I will change the oil and adjust the valves again.
Cheers!

what is the compression in lbs converted ?
if you have blue smoke that is oil burning i guess you know that, bummer :'(
one final note on the brake up-stop you made, unless you leave a LOT of free play in the pedal,a big bump will put the brakes on for you, just saying, it could be a safety issue

I have overhauled the top end, it is smoke free now and boosting a 592 kit! :)
Thanks for the heads up on the brakestop. There is enough play, but the brakesolution is not optimal and that will be adressed during the winter along with a list of other improvements.

Nice to see you found the 550 re-building tips, bent valves are real easy without the 'rubber band' trick.
Bike looks good, pretty much a 1977 cafe build 8)
Good fork brace will really help the flexy front end. It REALLY NEEDS DUAL DISC, single fades pretty easy if you use any of the performance upgrades you put into motor
With decent ignition system and CB650 cam, ignore stock red-line, it doesn't make decent power below 7K and will probably top out around 13,000 (had mine to 13,500 once or twice - about 83 mph in second gear)
Rings are usually pretty good, valve seals tend to get heated up and hard pretty quick, aftermarket viton ones work better

Just wanted to add my congratulatons, a beautiful bike that now seems to run just as good as it looks.
